CLEAN AIR NY - INTERN
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT - SUMMER 2010
Job Title: Program Assistant (5 intern
positions)
Project: Clean Air NY
Locations: (2 positions) Lower-mid Hudson
Valley, NY; (1 position) Melville, NY; (1 position) Medford, NY; (1 position)
Kew Gardens, NY
Compensation: $10.00 per hour
Dates of Positions: June 7, 2010
– August 6, 2010
Time Commitment: 9 weeks full time (37.5 hours per
week)
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Clean Air NY
Program Assistant will help support the New York State Department of
Transportation funded Clean Air NY Project by working with various MetroPool, CommuterLink, and Clean Air NY staff in
the following tasks:

Employer Outreach to educate employers about air quality issues, and work with
them to encourage their employees to make changes in travel behavior to improve
air quality. Specific tasks would include outreach via phone, e-mail, on-site
company meetings, events, distribution of promotional materials, etc.

Public Outreach to educate the general public about air quality issues and to
encourage them to change travel behavior; as well as to modify other general personal
activities in order to help reduce air pollutant emissions.

Community Partner Outreach to various community groups such as environmental,
health, business organizations, and Chambers of Commerce to secure their
assistance in outreach activities to their member constituents. Specific work
activities would include telephone and e-mail outreach, attendance at
educational meetings and events, and the distribution of informational
materials.
SUPERVISOR: MetroPool/CommuterLink
Managers/Territory Managers, and Clean Air NY Program Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Students enrolled at member
institutions of the Environmental
Consortium of Hudson Valley Colleges & Universities.
- Students entering Junior or Senior
undergraduate year, or graduate level.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Interest in environmental education
and outreach in public sector.
- Strong research, writing and
communication skills required with a proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Must have own transportation (with
the exception of the Kew
Gardens position).
- Availability for occasional weekend
work preferred (total hours per week will not exceed 37.5 hours).
