Good morning!
I wish I was able to join many of you at the Supported Life Conference. I hope to be back next year.
Yesterday, I went to visit an old friend. Someone I have known for well over twenty years. She happens to have a disability and uses supported living services.
When I arrived, she asked me if I would please look at a piece of paper and sign it. I did so, but with a great deal of disappointment. It was basically a waiver of liability and promise to obtain emergency medical services if needed. On the back was what was titled a Natural Supports Log where I was to provide dates and times of our visit. Apparently, we are no friends in someone's mind.
I know I've been out of the loop for a long time, but I had no idea that this was where we've gone as a service system. I think it's sad when supported living starts looking more like licensed residential services.
