Hello,
I believe I have a Eurasian tree sparrow at the house this morning. Are they becoming more common during central Illinois winters? I have a photo for ID reference.
Enjoying the birds.

Thanks for sharing Aaron.

I honestly didn’t realize this list was still active but I’m glad to know that it is.

I personally can’t say for sure, but it does seem like I have seen more reports recently. The closest I have seen them is near Havana, IL but I know someone used to report at least one regularly in north Urbana. I am in that area now and have been carefully combing through all the house sparrows in my yard without luck.

We did however have 17 cardinals at one time last weekend during the snow storm. It was a very pretty scene.

Good birding,
Sarah

Whoa! What even is this group? Love it! You for sure have an Eurasian Tree Sparrow. I often take the back roads between home (Decatur) and work (Springfield) and out towards Lincoln Trail Homestead - they are “frequent flyers” and are around most, if not all the time. I think they can be locally abundant, but I do unfortunately feel like they are becoming more common.
