In 2015, we are very proud to announce that Professor Eric Lander, has agreed to be our featured speaker.
Professor Lander is the Professor of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, former member of the Whitehead Institute, and founding director of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard who has devoted his career to realizing the promise of the human genome for medicine. He is also co-chair of U.S. President Barack Obama's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
We have just received the topic for these lectures: "The Human Genome and Beyond. A 35-year Journey of Genomic Medicine."
Beginning in the mid-1980s, Lander conceived and pioneered genomic methods that have now made it possible to discover thousands of genes underlying complex human diseases. His ideas gave rise to international projects to create comprehensive catalogs of human genetic variation (in which his group played a central role) and to hundreds of collaborative efforts around the world to understand the genetic basis of common human diseases, such as diabetes, cancer, inflammatory diseases and psychiatric disorders. These lectures therefore, would be of particular interest to medical professionals and scientific researchers in these fields. The Chennai lecture will be held on February 25, 2015 at Mutha Venkata Subba Rao Concert Hall (Lady Andal School) from 6 pm onwards. We will be very grateful if you could share this email with your colleagues at the Cancer Institute, Chennai and encourage them to register, so that the maximum number of interested people can avail of this valuable opportunity.
Our web page (http://tnq.co.in/ericlander.html) is live and provides details about the lecture tour, the schedule, the topic and Professor Eric Lander.
This year we have instituted a system of on-line registration for these lectures. The registration page is at http://ericlander.tnq.co.in. This is aimed at facilitating seat allotments and making transport arrangements for those institutions that guarantee a minimum number of 25+ attendees. Registration is free.
Registrants can also contribute to the interest generated by this event by following us on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Cell-Press-TNQ-India-Distinguished-Lectureship-Series/1526477087602940?ref=hl
