Bike to Work Week May 30 - June 5, 2011
Calling UBC faculty, Staff and Student Cyclists to Sign-Up for the Challenge
Bike to Work Week (B2WW) is fast approaching and Transportation Planning encourages all UBC faculty, staff and student cyclists to get on your bikes, sign-up and log your commutes as part of the B2WW challenge across Metro Vancouver.
Bike to Work Week is an annual event created by the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition and supported by UBC Transportation Planning that works to make cycling an integral part of transportation culture in Metro Vancouver.
It’s a great opportunity for you to commute to and from work with other cyclists, demonstrate your commitment to cycling, the environment and UBC’s sustainability goals – and to track your commuting kilometers in a friendly competition.
Last year, 208 UBC bike commuters made 1,292 bike trips, equal to 12,132 km cycled. These impressive stats helped UBC win for the most kilometers cycled and highest participating rate in the 1000+ employee category. UBC was also acknowledged as the overall winner in the Higher Education category. For 2011 we’d like to see stronger results with more cyclists participating and more kilometers logged.
While you cycle your way to better health you can stop at several “Commuter Stations” located across the Metro Vancouver Region where you can load up on refreshments, get free bike check-up and enter to win some great prizes. UBC’s Transportation Planning staff will be braving the weather, rain or shine, at our own commuter station to thank you for cycling.
