Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Solar Radio Astronomy, New Jersey Institute of Technology (Updated)

Posted by: Haimin Wang
The Department of Physics at New Jersey Institute of Technology invites applications for a new tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level, with a focus on studies of radio phenomena on the Sun and stars. Exceptionally well qualified candidates will be considered at the tenure-track associate professor level. The successful candidate will seek to establish and maintain an active teaching and research program in physics and astronomy that will contribute to the current solar, terrestrial, and space weather research and education program within the Center for Solar-Terrestrial Research (CSTR) and the Institute for Space Weather Sciences (ISWS). Preference will be given to candidates whose research programs can contribute to the operations and science with the Expanded Owens Valley Solar Array (EOVSA), Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO)’s Long Wavelength Array (OVRO-LWA), as well as the development of next-generation radio telescopes such as the Frequency Agile Solar Radiotelescope (FASR).

The New Jersey Institute of Technology is New Jersey’s public research university, located within minutes of New York City.  The Center for Solar-Terrestrial Research includes 9 faculty members doing research in solar radio, optical and infrared, and the terrestrial magnetosphere, ionosphere, and upper atmosphere.  In addition to EOVSA and OVRO-LWA, we operate the 1.6 m optical and infrared Goode Solar Telescope and other solar facilities at Big Bear Solar Observatory, lidar facilities, and a network of Automated Geophysical Observatories in Antarctica.  The multi-disciplinary Institute for Space Weather Sciences includes CSTR, the Center for Computational Heliophysics, and the Center for Big Data to understand and predict physics of solar activities and their space weather effects.

Review of applications will begin on 2024 December 15.  A complete application includes the following elements: (1) a 1-page cover letter, (2) a curriculum vitae, and (3) names and contact information for three individuals who may be asked to provide letters of reference. Finalists will be asked to provide a statement of research background, skills, and future plans for the next 5 years or so (up to 3 pages), and a statement of teaching experience, philosophy, and future plans (up to 3 pages) as supplementary materials.  Please see the job posting at https://njit.csod.com/ux/ats/careersite/1/home/requisition/7567?c=njit for more information and to submit an application.  Inquiries can be directed to Haimin Wang (haimi...@njit.edu), Chair of the Search Committee.
