Doctoral Internship Program in School Psychology

White Birch Educational Services

PO Box 10207, Bedford, New Hampshire

Introduction & Overview: White Birch Educational Services (WBES) is seeking applicants for our doctoral internship program in school psychology. Full-time interns will complete a minimum of 1,500 hours over a ten-month academic year between August 2023 and June 2024. The program offers supervised clinical training experiences in delivering comprehensive school-based psychological services. The WBES training program was developed and modeled using APPIC guidelines. The first cohort of interns will complete their internship during WBES’ provisional APPIC year; we anticipate full APPIC membership following the 2023-2024 provisional year. Internship positions are based on the Practitioner-Scholar training model guided by the American Psychological Association (APA) principles and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

WBES Interns are strategically placed in school districts in New Hampshire, with all clinical hours completed in the school setting. The program is a commitment to providing supervised experiential learning for delivering comprehensive school psychological services, including testing/assessment, consultation, and counseling/intervention services. Throughout the year, interns are provided with didactic training and diverse development opportunities from a team of psychologists. Exposure to special education services and consultation opportunities are integrated into the internship experience. Additional experience is provided in supervision, professional development, and research.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and act in accordance with the APA Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct.
  • Provide educational and psychological evaluations in the school setting to students with a variety of backgrounds.
  • Regular consultation with teachers, staff, administrators, parents/caregivers, and other professionals regarding an individual student or group of students.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services to students with various academic, adaptive, and/or emotional difficulties.

Benefits, Diversity & Non-Discrimination Policy: Interns receive compensation in the form of a $30,000 stipend, and are eligible to receive health and dental benefits. Interns follow the academic calendar for the school where they are placed.  School is not in session during December, February, and April breaks according to the specific school district calendar. During school vacation times, interns may work on research and other projects as deemed necessary to meet experience and minimum hour requirements. This will be determined by the needs and professional goals set by the intern. Dissertation leave is provided as needed. WBES seeks, welcomes, and values diversity and makes efforts to create an equitable, safe, inclusive, respectful, and hospitable learning environment for its interns. Diversity among trainees and supervisors enriches the educational experience, promotes personal growth, and strengthens communities and the workplace.

Eligibility Requirements: The intern selection process is based on a systematic review of the application package noted below. Applicants are individually evaluated in terms of quality of previous training, practicum experiences, and fit with the internship. Interviews will be arranged after an initial screening of applications and take place virtually. Applicants must meet the following qualifications before the beginning of the internship is preferred: A preferred minimum of 600 hours of practicum experience, including: Intervention and counseling, and assessment hours (experience administering cognitive, academic and/or various measures, report writing); Must have successfully defended his/her/they dissertation proposal prior to the internship program start date; Interest in working or gaining experience in the school/educational setting
