UCSB SB-PIC Intern Position Description

Program Description

The UCSB School Psychology pre-doctoral internship is offered through the SB-PIC (the Santa Barbara Psychology Internship Consortium), which is an APPIC-member, APA-accredited doctoral school psychology internship program in Santa Barbara County, California that draws on strong university–school partnerships. The mission of SB-PIC is to train doctoral interns in school psychology who are dedicated to serving children, youth, families, and schools, especially within culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Within this context, the UCSB-based internship provides a distinctive training model that combines direct, school-based service delivery (in a local elementary school) with academic–research–teaching roles embedded within the university environment. UCSB-SB-PIC interns spend time implementing Tier 2 social-emotional learning (SEL) groups in the partner elementary school (that is implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, including universal screening for social, emotional, behavioral as well as reading and math), supervising undergraduate assistants, and participating in faculty-type mentoring activities (in research, teaching/mentoring, and service). Through this design, the internship advances not only the applied practice of school psychology, but also prepares interns who aim to secure a faculty position. The SB-PIC requirement is to complete 1500 hours during the internship across 10.5 months, although, we can also arrange to fulfill more hours if dictated by out-of-state program requirements. The internship also provides the required supervision and experiences to fulfill the California School Psychology credential as well as the pre-doctoral requirements to fulfill the California Board of Psychology licensing as a psychologist.

As a reminder, there are 6 internship slots located in schools for 2026-2027 (see website for specific locations in Santa Barbara County) Please forward to those applying ... Due December 1.
