Dear School Psychology Colleagues,
I am writing to share a reminder about an exciting opportunity at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The Department of Counseling, Clinical, and School Psychology (CCSP) is currently seeking applicants for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in School Psychology, with anticipated start dates of July 1, 2027.
At UCSB, we remain deeply committed to advancing excellence in research and practice to support diverse learners, families, and schools. Our School Psychology faculty maintain active programs of research and scholarship and contribute extensively to professional leadership at the national and international levels, with a shared commitment to advancing the science and practice of school psychology.
We presently have eight tenure-track School Psychology faculty members (one of whom currently has full-time administrative responsibilities) and we are very excited about the opportunity to expand our School Psychology faculty to ten tenure-track colleagues through this search. This continued investment provides an exceptional foundation for collaboration, mentorship, interdisciplinary scholarship, and innovation in graduate education and professional preparation.
A particular strength of School Psychology at UCSB is our collaborative faculty culture and the opportunity to contribute to work with local, national, and international impact. Faculty frequently collaborate across research, training, and service initiatives, including several currently federally funded projects led by Dr. Jimerson and involving multiple School Psychology faculty. Several recent examples include Project TEAM-UP ($1.25 million, U.S. Department of Education), focused on interdisciplinary preparation to support children with disabilities and high-intensity needs; SBPIC Project TEAMS ($1.8 million, Health Resources and Services Administration), advancing interdisciplinary preparation of health service psychologists to address behavioral and mental health needs; the UCSB School Psychology JEDI Project ($5.3 million, U.S. Department of Education), focused on preparing professionals to expand high-quality mental health services in schools; and our school collaborative Project TEAMS ($2.7 million, U.S. Department of Education), an interdisciplinary collaboration preparing special education and school psychology scholars to advance equity in addressing students' mental health needs, which continues through the current academic year. Additional initiatives include our long-standing partnership with the Santa Barbara County SELPA addressing policy and programming for students with emotional and behavioral needs and our current UC-HBCU Pathways to the Professoriate in School Psychology collaboration with Bowie State University. Collectively, these initiatives illustrate opportunities at UCSB for new faculty to develop and participate in ambitious collaborative research, training, and professional initiatives with impact extending from local schools and communities to the national and international school psychology community.
UCSB offers both an M.Ed. program and a Ph.D. program in School Psychology, as well as our APA-accredited School Psychology Internship Program. Our doctoral program places a particular emphasis on preparing the next generation of school psychology faculty, researchers, and leaders, with opportunities for advanced research, university teaching, supervision, mentorship, and professional leadership. We have also established a Graduate Certificate in Bilingual School Psychology, further strengthening the preparation of all our School Psychology graduate students to work effectively with multilingual learners and families. Together, these programs provide opportunities for faculty to contribute across multiple levels of graduate education, research, professional preparation, and applied practice while working closely with students and colleagues across the School Psychology program.
We welcome applicants whose programs of research contribute to understanding and promoting the development and success of diverse children and youth in schools. Areas of emphasis may include, but are not limited to, (a) social, emotional, and behavioral development and success of diverse children and youth at school and/or (b) academic and cognitive development and success of diverse children and youth at school.

Position description
We seek to appoint two new faculty members in School Psychology with expertise focused on advancing science supporting: (a) the social, emotional, and behavioral development and success of diverse children and youth at school, and/or (b) the academic and cognitive development and success of diverse children and youth at school. Candidates may demonstrate expertise in one or both of these areas. The two appointed faculty members will further the program’s reputation as a national and international leader in related scholarship, teaching, and clinical expertise.
Recent and prospective doctoral recipients, post-doctoral scholars, researchers, and faculty members at early career stages are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities will include (a) research and grant-writing, (b) graduate and undergraduate teaching, (c) clinical supervision, (d) doctoral student advising, and (e) university and public service.
Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a doctoral program in School Psychology or a closely related field. At the time of application, applicants must have completed all doctoral degree requirements except the dissertation and/or predoctoral internship; applicants who are currently completing their predoctoral internship are eligible to apply.
Doctorate in School Psychology or related field by start date.
