Our Fossil Fools Day photo petition efforts couldn't come at a better time.  Things are starting to move in our direction, with elected officials coming around and starting to voice concerns over LNG and fight to reassert state authority over our energy future.

Today's Oregonian had this good news:  Oregon Senator Ron Wyden and some powerful Senate allies, including presidential contenders Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama, introduced a bill Monday to wrest back states' authority over the siting of liquefied natural gas terminals from federal energy regulators.  If the bill succeeds, we'll have a stronger control over our state's energy future, and Senator Wyden's efforts are a clear sign that our elected officials are beginning to hear the concerns of thousands of Oregonians united in their opposition to LNG.

The CCN's Natalie Sashkin from Willamette University will be meeting with Governor Ted Kulongoski's environmental advisor today to deliver our completed photo petition, full of hundreds of Oregonians sending a clear message: "Oregonian's aren't fossil fools, we want clean energy not LNG!"  Thanks to everyone who helped put that together and added their photo message to the booklet, we now have a powerful message to send the Governor and other elected officials.  But we can all do more to help fight LNG...

Please take a moment tomorrow (April 9th) to call Governor Kulongoski's office to support our photo petition and keep the pressure on Kulongoski to stand firm and keep LNG out of Oregon.

April 9th is a statewide Day of Action organized by Students against LNG and supported by the Cascade Climate Network and you will be joined by students on campuses across the NW who are also calling into the governor to support his opposition to these projects and to urge him to do everything in his power to stop them from moving forward!

You can call at any time of day and make your case against LNG and related pipelines. Below you will find governor contact info and points that can be raised in your phone call.

Governor Kulongoski's Contact info:
PHONE
Governor's Citizens' Representative Message Line
503.378.4582

Possible points to make in your message to the governor:
-
Investment in LNG moves our state further away from meeting goals for renewable energy use in the state.
-The pipelines proposed to accompany these LNG projects will devastate Mt. Hood Nat'l Forest, countless waterways and prized agricultural lands throughout the state.
-LNG development stands to threaten traditional use, commerce and habitat on the Columbia River.
-The state has the authority to stop these projects by denying crucial permits to the energy companies - please direct agencies to exercise their full authority to deny these permits.

Also attached is a 4 page info sheet on LNG that can offer you info on specifics of proposed LNG/pipeline infrastructure. This will give you a better understanding of the projects and can help you to make additional/personalized points to the governor.

So please take three minutes out of your day on April 9th and call to leave a message for Gov. Kulongoski that LNG is bad for Oregon! We want him to know that students in the region are getting on board with thousands of Oregon residents who want to see the end of LNG proposals in our state.

Thanks for taking a stand for Oregon's energy future!

Hey all. The day of action is not solely for Oregonians.  Read on to see how you can help out in Washington.

In Washington, Cowlitz County (in Southern WA)
has decided to demand more permits be obtained by NorthernStar (the company proposing
one of the three terminals, the Bradwood Landing LNG terminal)

******There is a day of action planned for APRIL 9! (TOMORROW!)*******
It is a call-in day throughout both Oregon and Washington.

THE MORE CALLS THE BETTER so please join in!

Governor Gregorie's office:
(360) 902-4111

ASK THE GOVERNOR TO:
-Oppose LNG development in the region because of it's negative affects on
the Columbia River, climate change, and residents in southern WA facing
eminent domain on their properties.
-Support Cowlitz County in it's recent decision to require Northernstar to
apply for more permits.
Tell her you are a concerned community member, an CCN member, a
member of Students Against LNG (SALNG)- whichever you prefer. Tell her you
care and won't stop fighting!

What are global warming solutions? WE are global warming solutions.  We are a force for change, a force that can step outside the old energy paradigm to build the future and present that we know is possible.  People like us, acting in every community, hold the ideas and inspiration for change, and we can believe in those people as we believe in ourselves.
