Congratulations to four Cascade Climate Network schools that recently won top honors from the US EPA's Green Power Partnership program as 2007-2008 College & University Green Power Challenge Champions!
Schools were honored for being the top green power purchaser in their collegiate conference, and Oregon State University, Western Washington University, Southern Oregon University and Lewis and Clark College all took home top finishes within their conference. As far as I know, green power purchases at all four colleges are funded by voluntary student fees, a sign that young people across the Cascade Region are willing to step up, put their money where their mouth is, and be renewable energy leaders.
Oregon State University and Western Washington University both make the overall "Top 10" list for largest green power purchases by universities and colleges nationwide. OSU ranks at #4 while WWU is tied for 9th (see
http://www.epa.gov/grnpower/toplists/top10ed.htm).
Evergreen State College also makes a 100% renewable energy purchase, although they didn't make the top 10 rankings, and several other Northwest schools make green power purchases.
Something for these Northwest schools to be proud of, and something for the rest of us to aspire to (You Beavers are kicking us Ducks butts! We only purchase 4% of campus energy from renewable energy...).
Rock on Climateers!

What are global warming solutions? WE are global warming solutions. We are a force for change, a force that can step outside the old energy paradigm to build the future and present that we know is possible. People like us, acting in every community, hold the ideas and inspiration for change, and we can believe in those people as we believe in ourselves.
