Hello Climateers,

In another victory in the fight against increased fossil fuel dependence for Oregon, the City of Forest Grove, has become the first Oregon city to formally oppose the construction of liquefied natural gas terminals near the mouth of the Columbia River and pipelines to central Oregon.

From today's Oregonian (front page, business section): "Forest Grove says no to LNG line"

"City councilors on Monday unanimously supported the resolution [to oppose the LNG pipelines], which cited the project's potential danger to the ecological balance of the Columbia, to the natural resources along the pipeline route and to the water supply of Forest Grove.

"It's not a case of Not In My Back Yard," said Councilor Pete Truax, who drafted the resolution. "This is in nobody's back yard.""

As a native Forest Grover (go Vikings!) I'm proud to see my home city step up to say loud and clear, No LNG for Oregon!  Forest Grovers are no Fossil Fools, and neither are Oregonians as a whole.

Help send a clear message to Governor Kulongoski on April 1st, Fossil Fools Day, that Oregonians want Green Jobs, not LNG by join our Fossil Fools Day photo petition effort.  Contact Natalie Sashkin (natalie....@gmail.com) to find out how to join this fun - and timely! - action.

We've also got a new ally in Congress, Representative Peter DeFazio, who demanded last Friday that the federal government listen to the concerns of Oregonians about proposed LNG facilities (a novel idea!).

Backed by Oregon's three other Democratic representatives, DeFazio sent a letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, responsible for siting LNG facilities, calling their process "inadequate."

"As you know, the proposed LNG facilities in Oregon do pose some significant environmental and safety challenges, while the question of need is being left to the market to answer," the letter said.

Check out this article in last Friday's Oregonian for the full story.

This news means it's time to redouble our efforts and keep up the fight to keep LNG out of Oregon.

If you're a Washingtonian, don't worry, there's Fossil Fools Day fun to be had in the Evergreen State as well.  Contact JP Kemmick (jpke...@gmail.com) to find out how you can help keep coal out of Washington.

Keep up the good fight climateers,

Jesse Jenkins
