Overview of Computer Data System

It is clear that computer affect our lives in many ways by increasing our efficiency and enhancing our abilities. But exactly what do computers do? Simply, computers solve problems. There are three major elements in every computer solution: data, hardware and software. The relationship of elements can be represented in equation.  Data are facts and may consist of numbers (numeric data), and text (alphabetic data), or a combination of the two (alpha-numeric data). It has been seen by decision makers that more and more information is necessary for a decision making process. Information consists of data that has been organized so that it is relevant and can be used in decision making. The problem, then, is how to sort the relevant data from the irrelevant and arrive at manipulating data using one or more of the following procedures.

  • Collecting the data – Depending on the particular task under consideration, data are collected from any number of sources.
  • Organizing the data – The data must be arranged into relevant categories so that the relationships between various facts can be seen.
  • Combining the data – Similar data are grouped together to reduce the number of data items to be processed.
  • Sorting of data – The data are arranged as needed, perhaps in the alphabetic order, in numerical order, or in chronological order.. For more Click here
