7HR WEDNESDAY Billy Goat Ride – 6:15pm
Departure: 6:15PM Corner of Wilmer and Airport Rd. in the parking lot in front of Lunken Airport Terminal
Total Distance: About 26 miles with 2500 feet of climb, longer if you follow the MOST IMPORTANT RULE.
Return Time: 8PM - 8:30PM
Required Equipment: Lights and reflective clothing.
According to the weather forecast, today looks to be the only day this week that we can get the Billy Goat in. As such, we’re going TONIGHT. Tomorrow will be another rain-fest like Monday. The temps will be in the mid 40’s for tonight’s ride and it will be DRY.
I’m going to mix things up tonight. Instead of the normal route, we are going to do Kippy’s ORIGINAL BILLY GOAT (version 1.0). The Goat 1.0 is the Columbia Tusculum/Mt. Lookout section of the ride, and it ends with a descent down Tusculum after doing the Alms Park loop. At this point, we will then hang a right on Eastern Ave. and roll downtown around US Bank Arena just like the old days. Then, if the spirit moves us properly, we will climb up Monastary/Warhem, ride past the Art Museum and return through Eden Park/Madison Ave. into Hyde Park, where we will hang a right on Linwood and return to Lunken.
So in short, the route will start off with 6-7 good climbs followed by the flat ride downtown, followed by 2-3 more substantial climbs with some rolling terrain.
* Most Important Rule – On each of the climbs, loop back down to the last rider and ride back to the top with them. You should not be seen waiting at the top of climbs unless you are ready to pass out.
