8 Ways to Stay Safe at Occupy Wall Street's One-Year Anniversary ProtestsIntersections: The Afrolatina Connection
MGC 200 5:30
To kickoff Latino Heritage Month, the Center for Diversity & Inclusion and Multicultural Affairs Department of Women’s Initiative will be launching “Intersections,” a new dialogue program sponsored by CDI that will roll out for each heritage and history month. This Monday, our first discussion topic will be “The Afrolatino Connection.” Latina representation in the United States has been almost void of Afrolatina presence. This results in the misconception that black and Latin@ identity is mutually exclusive when in reality they are often one in the same. The purpose of this dialogue is to uncover the misconceptions of the Afrolatina experience in the United States and to honor the intersections of both identities. We will explore questions such as: Who is black? Who is Latino? What is Afrolatina?

In a rough style, by way of unique footage, the brutal consequences of modern wars are exposed. The film also depicts the ability of women and children to handle their everyday life after a dramatic war experience. Many of them live in tents or in ruins without walls or roofs. They are all in need of money, food, water and electricity. Others have lost family members, or are left with seriously injured children. Can war solve conflicts or create peace? The film follows three children through the war and the period after the ceasefire.

SATURDAYSmash Racism
Lincoln Park, 13th & Massachusetts Ave. SE, Washington, DC 12pm
On September 22nd, several white supremacist groups will swarm the nation's capitol in an attempt to march to Union Square near the reflecting pool on the National Mall. They claim it's in support of whites suffering a supposed 'genocide' of in South Africa, but we know it's a thinly veiled ruse to build sympathy for their cynical vision of an authoritarian, white nationalist state.
Join us to say no to racism, no to Nazis, and no to the Klan.
