Parent Forum - Adolescent Depression and Anxiety

A Parent Forum on Adolescent Depression and Anxiety will be held on Thursday evening, May 24th, 7:00-9:00 PM, in the R. J. Grey Junior High library. Panelists will be: Deborah Garfield, Director of Clinical Services at The Eliot Center in Concord; Elizabeth Warren, a school psychologist from Acton-Boxborough Regional High School; and two young adults who have had personal experiences with depression and anxiety. Topics presented by the panel members will be: signs and symptoms that families may see of these disorders and how family life might be impacted; the difference between normal teenage “angst” and clinical depression; how these can present in school and how the school can help; and when outside treatment is needed. Following the panel presentations there will be an opportunity for interaction between the panel members and the audience. This forum is sponsored by CAFY (Community Alliance for Youth) and NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness). For more information, call Judy McKendry at 978-897-9541.
