Parent Forum - Adolescent Depression and Anxiety
A Parent Forum on Adolescent Depression will be held on Wednesday evening, April 27, 7:00-9:00 PM, at R.J.Grey Junior High library The panel of speakers includes: two youth who will share their experience and struggles with depression; Steve and Debbie Boczenowski, residents of Groton, will speak about the challenges that they faced as their son Jeffery battled with depression and anxiety and ultimately took his own life at the age of 21; and Susan Root, a school psychologist from Acton Boxborough Regional High School. Topics presented by the panel members will include signs and symptoms of these disorders, the difference between normal teenage “angst” and clinical depression, how these would present in school, how the school can help, how family life might be impacted, and when outside treatment is needed. Following the panel presentations there will be an opportunity for interaction between the panel members and audience.
