Action: Call for Part-time Editors and Proof Readers

A southern Africa regional organisation is seeking for the following services:
1) Editing
2) Proof Reading

The successful candidate will be contracted to support with editing and proofreading materials and will undertake the following activities:

a) Edit content as assigned, (sexual and reproductive health and rights, development and health related topics) aimed at various target groups (children, young people, men, women, policy makers, service providers, communities), for a range of materials including manuals, toolkits, flyers, leaflets, posters etc. ensuring that it is in line with the material brief.
b) Edit using the track changes facility in MS Word and may be done remotely using Skype, internet file transfer protocols email etc.
c) Ensure that the style and formatting match the organisation’s writing style guide.
d) Ensure content is accurate and in line with latest trends, adding value where necessary, in liaison with the responsible staff within the hiring organisation.
e) Provide feedback where significant changes are required to the content.
f) Finalise content in readiness for publication.
g) Proof read edited and final versions of content in MS Word, using track changes, or on PDF using Adobe Acrobat
h) Provide quality proof reading of print ready materials, checking for accuracy against final Word versions where appropriate.
i) Ensure spelling and style are correct and in line with the organisation’s writing style guide.
j) Ensure page numbers, headings and captions are correct and photos and illustrations correctly captioned.
k) Ensure content is correctly and consistently formatted.
l) Check resources and references for accuracy.

Who should respond to this call?

Responses are invited from candidates with the following qualities:

1) Excellent written English, including excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation.
2) Meticulous approach to their work and an eye for detail.
3) Ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines
4) Love of and feel for language.
5) Experience working in the area of sexual and reproductive health, health communications and development.
