Worst of News – As of this evening, the wildfire has reached the town of jasper and many buildings are on fire (see attached photo).

Officials with Jasper National Park say wildland firefighters have been pulled from the town due to air quality and other crews are currently trying to “save as many structures as possible” in the town.

Another sign of climate change? I feel sorry for the residents and businesses. They will lose a lot.
Much like the Toronto floods, the FF companies should be paying for the losses but it is unlikely to happen

Richard wrote that the FF companies should be paying for the losses but it is unlikely to happen. He is right on his second point, it's not going to happen. He and many advocates are whistling in the wind on the first point. FF companies cannot, their one and only responsibility being to make a profit for their shareholders.

I believe the mistake that a lot of people make when they think about corporations, is they think corporations are like us. They think they have feelings, they have politics, they have belief systems. They really have only one thing: the bottom line — how to make as much money as they can in any given quarter. That's it.

Michael Moore, American activist

Quotation from Andrew Welch's book, The Value Crisis,
200 pages, well worth one's time.
Andrew makes the point that we are subject to the mathematics of profit.
Andrew is a member of CACOR

John Maskell gently posed the question on Tuesday of who is responsible for emissions: producer or consumer? I have drafted an opinion on this subject, not yet published. I agree with John M that this is an issue worthy of CACOR's attention.

Cheers,

John
