I was working with AI to look at various scenarios of Onatrio's electricity rate changes on 1 Nov 2025 (tomorrow).   This is not a simple issue as the calculation depends on your rate plan and your time of use of the energy.     We are all different from what I came up with.   I wanted some number we could understand that was sort of an average.

Your electricity bill will increase by 18% on 1 Nov.    You can add HST to this and get about 20%.   There is a rebate that the Ontario government makes (really your tax dollars returned to you) which will impact this as well.

The point is that this is not an insignificant rate increase.

If you have a microgrid (solar paired with storage), microfit sales and a ground source heat pump your grid energy usage is unlikely to change except for global warming reducing heating energy and costs.

In my case, the impact of this 20% rate  increase is $zero.    What it really means is that my energy credits will not extend out as far as before the rate increase.   But since I have been in a surplus position it really means that I am lapsing less money to Hydro One next April.

For those without any generating or storage systems, the 20% should be a good indicator that will get your attention.   If you are a low income registered user, then the impact will be minimal but I was unable to find  even a reasonable approximation to work with.
