Dear all:

It is my opinion that we absolutely must pay far more attention to and more carefully discuss what Charlie Angus is telling us.

This is because what he is talking about underpins, powers and overshadows all of our polycrises — every one of them.

It is my opinion that we should far better grasp and understand the history and dynamics of governance and societal evolution — what has occurred, what is occurring, how we have come to where we are — and what will be our future.

Simpy put:  we should be well-prepared for the worst — far better than we are — and be prepared to act, and act well, far sooner than anyone might have ever thought necessary. 

This is not a chicken little exercise. This is not one of those laudable but obviously fake “prepare for disaster" alerts that you get once in a blue Moon on your phone or computer, and then forget about until the next time, when you can forget it again.

No — this is a real oncoming storm, a true storm of storms, the big kahuna — where “kahuna” is transformed to now means the biggest, heaviest, ugliest, and most destructive armada of bulldozers you have ever imagined. The attack, total destruction and grinding down won’t stop until everyone and everything has been totally flattened — when the only things that are left to curl up into the air are the last vestiges of mud, dust, blood, bones, smoke, and tears.

What is coming strikes at the hearts of you and me. No-one gets to sit this one out. No-one is exempt. There is no do-over. No-one gets out alive.

You might think I’m paranoid, that I’m imagining things, that I’m fearful of some kind of scary bogey-man? 

Think again.

And for those who have not lifted an eyebrow or said much of anything in response to my repeatedly raising the alarm about the forthcoming collapse and then the erasure of the Rule of Law and its violent replacement by The State of Exception, through both our systemic erasure and the general imposition of “Bare Life” on those who are forever powerless, who will no longer be human — those whose only role in life, however short it may be, is to be separate from the self-selected, centralised, preferred wealth and total control enjoyed by those who have gathered together, isolated, and maintain all power — I refer you back to core readings by Tom Bingham about The Rule of Law, and Giorgio Agamben having to do with “Bare Life” and “The State of Exception”. 

These are good reference IMHO. If you think you can do better than these, have at it. For all I know, your references and illuminations about the evolution of governance through the interleavings of peace and war may be far superior to what I’m offering here. Note that I am not engaging in some kind of ersatz academic post-pissing about who says these things best, who gets highest marks for “more thorough research", who is brainier and more insightful about analyses and syntheses, or who claims to understand the so-called nuances of societal evolution and destruction better than anyone else. 

One the bulldozers are done, none of that will matter one whit, and most definitely none of it will be remembered. Total erasure is like that ...

Simply put:  by my lights, Bingham has the Rule of Law down-pat, explains well how it comes about, and illustrates very clearly how and why it functions as it does; Agamben shows very clearly, through our understandings of history, philosophy and the law, what the world is all about with the precursors to and inevitabilities of “Bare Life” and “The State of Exception” — and how it is that we arrive there.

So — thank you, Charlie. And thank you Tom, and thank you Giorgio. We are all on this path together. And what a path this is …
