The Catalina Manual calls for 115' of 3/8ths low stretch. My original halyard has about 25' of spare length which I have thought excessive.

Any thoughts about 100' if it comes finished on both ends?

Thanks!

I think the argument for additional length is that the halyard would be
long enough to lift someone out of the water.

I’ve only had my 320 for one season, but I thought ALL of the lines were way too long.

I don’t know how many times I thought, “give him enough rope and he’ll hang himself.”

Having a longer halyard allows you opportunity to shorten it by redoing the shackle and shift where the halyard might be slipping from wear at the rope clutch. However, you wouldn't  want to do this many times before complete replacement.

The broker who sold us Pearl is a professional rigger and owned a 320
himself. He also worked for a Catalina dealer for a number of years. He
said to take the Catalina recommended running rigging lengths and cut them
by 10%. As I am slowly replacing my rigging, I have found this to be a
good rule of thumb.
