Role Overview
The Couchbase Database Administrator (DBA) will be
responsible for the administration, maintenance, optimization, and support of
Couchbase Server environments. The role requires expertise in database
performance tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery, security, and
collaboration with technical teams to ensure high availability and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery
- Install, configure,
administer, and support Couchbase Server instances for high availability
and performance.
- Monitor and maintain
database health; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Design and implement
database schemas and indexing strategies.
- Develop and implement
robust backup, archival, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Enforce database
security protocols, including access control, encryption, and auditing.
- Diagnose and resolve
database-related issues (performance, errors, breaches).
- Collaborate with end
users, developers, and stakeholders to support application data needs.
- Automate database
operations such as backups, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Manage Couchbase XDCR
(Cross Data Center Replication) and perform system upgrades.
- Maintain technical
documentation for database environments, processes, and troubleshooting.
Internal Processes & Support
- Follow established team
procedures for change management, service requests, and technical support.
- Provide second-level
support for database issues and incidents.
- Track work hours and
maintain project-related documentation.
- Mentor junior Database
Administrators and provide guidance on best practices.
- Participate in security
and continuity of operations (COOP) activities.
- Be available for on-call
and emergency response as required.
Required Qualifications
- 4–10 years of experience as a
Couchbase Database Administrator.
- Strong expertise in:
- Database management and
administration (installation, configuration, tuning).
- Performance
optimization (index creation, management, tuning).
- Capacity planning,
backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Couchbase XDCR and SDK
library upgrades.
- Database security
(access control, encryption, patching, auditing).
- Proficiency in
automation of database processes using scripts/tools.
- Experience with
troubleshooting complex database issues in production environments.
- Strong collaboration and
communication skills to work with developers and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IT
service management tools (e.g., ServiceNow) and ticket resolution
processes.
- Familiarity with
enterprise-level security protocols and compliance frameworks.
- Knowledge of database
architecture planning and implementation in large-scale environments.
