Hi,

As you may know I'm using my Sieg for mostly woodturning and I think
it's the cross slide, keeps getting in the way. I keep having to move
it from side to side and I also have the problem of my hand hitting
the wheel that moves it in and out so it stops a smooth movement
across my piece of wood.

It would also save it getting covered in wood shavings.

Is it possible to remove it?

I tried having a look but it seems to be attached to the screw thread
that winds it horizontally across the lathe and I thought it better to
ask than start messing about with it incase I unscrew something I
shouldn't.

Thanks,

Jennifer,

Look up my piece on assembling the "CO" on the Arc Euro site. Best Wishes, Mick Nicholson.

Hi there.
First remove the tailstock and  the long black cover from the leadscrew, at either end of the leadscrew is a mounting block, remove the screws that secure these to the bed.  You can now slide the whole assembly (towards the tailctock end) off the bed. Remove the leadscrew from the saddle assembly by un screwing the bronze nut from the saddle for storage and keep safe so you do not bend the screw.
Regards,
Nick
