How to create editable areas on static Wordpress Website?

I have converted a Website to Wordpress and setup my static pages and created a blog page for my posts page. What I am trying to do is create areas on my static pages that would be editable, such as a bio section.
I have read through the Codex including documentation about the loop. I have tried pasting the php into the areas where I want to edit with differing results including an edit link showing up on the page when I am not signed in as admin (I don't want the public to have to see the link). I tried again and I am not seeing anything there at all. Any ideas? I've searched everywhere and watched several YouTube tutorials with no luck.
