My wife and I live in Marysville, California and we're currently doing
some staging work to our home so that we can sell it and move to the
Grass Valley area of California. We've taken a tour of the area and
spoken to a realestate agent about the type of home we want to buy.
That being said, the thought struck me the other day that buying a
factory-built home (not a mobile home) might be a viable alternative as
I have heard that the quality of these homes is as good as, or better
than stick-built. I can check out the cost of land and the cost of the
building itself, but have no way to get a reasonable estimate of other
services apart from calling some contractors and telling them that this
is a "maybe" thing. I'm leaning towards getting one of these houses
because in all fairness, I'd like to live in a house where I can spend
5 years not fixing leaks or cranky water heaters or furnaces or
anything else delicate found in an 80 year old house. So my question
is this: Can someone direct me to a place online where I can get a
reasonable estimate of the following services ?
- foundation
- hookup to sewer lines
- hookup to city water lines
- hookup to electricity and cable
- laying down a driveway (paving stones or asphalt)
- shingling a roof
If you can help me out with this, or if you have any other advice about
getting a manufactured home going, it would be very much appreciated.
It would be nice to have alternatives to just buying someone else's
problems.
