Future of Cheeseburger in Paradise in Doubt
May 8, 2007 6:36am Submitted by: phjim
An article in the St. Petersburg Times raises concerns over the
Cheeseburger in Paradise chain: "Outback veggie steaks? Unlikely"
http://www.sptimes.com/2007/05/08/Business/Outback_veggie_steaks.shtml
Fledgling concepts: It seemed like a great idea: Marry the don't-worry-
be-happy ethos of Outback with the drink-heavily-be-woozy style of
singer Jimmy Buffett. In just a few years, the Cheeseburger in
Paradise chain has swelled to 42 locations. Unfortunately, it remains
a money-loser.
The likely outcome? Some say Cheeseburger will be shut down. Why?
OSI's new owners will be looking to fund proven restaurant concepts,
fix the ailing Outback and pay off their crushing new debts.

Jimmy Had a Bug at the Houston Show
May 8, 2007 6:22am Submitted by: phjim
The Houston Chronicle has an article: "Even bugs can be
Parrotheads" (by Ken Hoffman)
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/features/4782831.html
It took me awhile, but I've found out why Jimmy Buffett was coughing
and hocking up loogies during his concert at Minute Maid Park ...
That's what happened. Buffett swallowed a bug right before the
concert. The roof was open and something was flying around. Gulp! The
little bugger stuck in his throat.
The bug didn't affect his singing, but after each song Buffett turned
from the microphone, hacked pretty hard and looked like he was
searching for a spittoon.
I'm told he finally coughed up the bug midway through the second half
of the show, and the concert continued without incident.

Jimmy Appears with Warren Buffett at Annual Meeting
May 5, 2007 8:09pm Submitted by: phjim
Jimmy made a surprise appearance at Berkshire Hathaway's annual
meeting with Warren Buffett: Berkshire Live: Updates from Q&A session
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1208&u_sid=2378514
The meeting opened with a surprise. "Mr. Buffett" was introduced as
debonair, talented and other superlatives, and out stepped singer
Jimmy Buffett, wearing a Hawaiian shirt and shorts and bearing a
guitar, who proclaimed himself a distant cousin to Warren Buffett.
Jimmy Buffett said genetic testing was done, and the question of who
will inherit Warren Buffett's company has been answered. Jimmy Buffett
said "Since blood is thicker than water, I'm your new chairman." Jimmy
Buffett later said he was kidding.
Jimmy Buffett performed a reworked version of "Margaritaville" that
began, "Living on sponge cake, and Omaha beef steak, watching the
shareholders running around." The chorus was "Wasting away in
Berkshire Hathaway-a-ville."
>From MSNBC: The singing Buffett, who performed a version of his hit
"Margaritaville" adapted for the meeting, stumbled through lyrics
placed at his feet. "Warren gave me a really big budget for a
teleprompter here," he joked.

Dallas Show Review
April 29, 2007 9:12pm Submitted by: Dezdmona
The Dallas Morning News has a review of Saturday's show "Jimmy Buffett
brings musical happy hour to Pizza Hut Park" by Michael Granberry
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/overnight/stories/DN-buffett_0430gl.State.Edition1.3e52b7a.html
As he has thousands of times in thousands of cities, Mr. Buffett wowed
the crowd at Pizza Hut Park with a nearly three-hour show that made
everyone feel they were well into happy hour. Mr. Buffett is a pro's
pro - he can play and jam with the best - but this is not Bruce
Springsteen raising the ghost of Woody Guthrie or Jackson Browne
drawing eerie parallels to Iraq in "Lives in the Balance."
On this night, the troubadour gave them all the hits they wanted while
showing his remarkable range.
He opened with Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" but also did
terrific covers of Hank Williams' "Hey, Good Lookin'," Van Morrison's
"Brown Eyed Girl," Guy Clark's "Cinco de Mayo in Memphis," Lyle
Lovett's "If I Had a Boat" and Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Southern
Cross."
And he acknowledged the effect he was having. "Church attendance might
be down in the morning," he said. "But for those worried about that,
well, for me, this counts as church." Call it a case of preaching to
the choir, one that left in a deliriously happy state.

Buffett at Jazz Fest to Honor Ed Bradley
April 27, 2007 7:43pm Submitted by: phjim
MSNBC has an article: "New Orleans Jazz Fest honors fan Ed Bradley"
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18357285/from/ET/
CBS newsman Ed Bradley was a big fan of the New Orleans Jazz and
Heritage Festival. On Friday, the Jazz Fest honored his memory and his
two decades of support with an opening-day jazz funeral procession,
complete with two brass bands.
Quint Davis introduced singer Jimmy Buffett as the person who first
brought Bradley to the festival in the 1980s, and the first to pull
him up on a stage and hand him a tambourine.
"Bless you, Father, for bringing us a really bad tambourine player but
a great friend," Buffett said Friday.
Buffett took credit for giving Bradley the nickname "Teddy Badly."
About 45 of Bradley's friends participating in the parade wore small
green pins with the name "Teddy" printed on them.
More on Jimmy in New Orleans (from Duris): There was a reception at
Harrah's for the Jazz Fest foundation with a presentation honoring Ed
Bradley. Jimmy performed "Do You Know What it Means to Miss New
Orleans" with Allen Toussaint. He presented a check from the sale of
the swimsuit model guitar for $47,000. The proceeds went to the
Habitat and a local music foundation.

Jimmy's comments in new book on New Orleans
April 26, 2007 6:17am Submitted by: phjim
Comments from several celebrities appear in a new coffee table book
called "Orleans Embrace with The Secret Gardens of the Vieux Carre".
Celebrities quoted include Francis Ford Coppola, Nicholas Cage, Jimmy
Buffett, Emeril Lagasse, and Lenny Kravitz. Publisher profits from
this book go to the French Quarter preservation. More information on
the book is available at Morgana Press.
http://www.morganapress.com/books.html
Jimmy Buffett: "The Vieux Carré was my window to the tropics before
there ever was a Margaritaville song or restaurant. It was the place
for all us children of the coast, who were lucky enough to see the
gardens, smell the gumbo and hear the music that spoke of a larger and
more interesting world beyond the path of Highway 90. I have been
lucky enough to see many views of many places that are called
paradise, but my first view was a banana tree in a Vieux Carré garden.
I can remember that view nearly 50 years later as if it were
yesterday. In a world filled with many storms and much uncertainty,
the Vieux Carré was, still is and will hopefully always be a shelter
from the storms."
