I can't imagine that there are more than a handful of people who were
in our class and didn't actually graduate with us. I honestly don't
think it will increase our numbers drastically. I second (third?) the
no guest rule. It seems kind of harsh because I feel like you should
be allowed to bring your S.O. to your reunion..however, our class is
huge and it's not practical at the moment.

That said, how many people do you realistically think we should expect
to see? My estimate is somewhere between 300-400. In spite of making
every effort to get in touch with everyone, there will unfortunately
be those people who are beyond the reaches of Facebook and the
Internet. People may have relocated after graduation, gone abroad,
stayed in their college-towns, etc.

As for Bronx Science as a venue- it's nice in a sentimental way [and I
am ALL for being corny plus I wouldn't mind going back to see what the
place looks like] but is it even feasible? The only possible locations
that would hold a couple hundred people are the gym or the caf. I
don't even know if they make those spaces available for use on the
weekend- even if it is to their alumni. Plus that adds the extra
hassle of having to find someone to staff and cater the event, and we
likely wouldn't be able to serve alcohol [or would need licenses to do
so?]. Just my two cents.

Finally, I know this is a 2004 reunion but do we think it'd be a good
idea to invite the faculty/staff/administrators? I don't necessarily
think most of them would come but I don't think extending an invite
would harm anyone. We all had our favorite teachers [who didn't love
The Nunez?!] and I'm sure a lot of people would love to see a few of
them and catch up with them again. It is a Reunion after all right?

Anyway, I reckon that's all I had for now...if I think of anything
else, I'll be back :)

I don't think anyone has said no guests as of right now, I think it's
more of a wait and see what the preliminary response is before going
ahead with a decision. Like Jessica said if it's only around 150-200
then +1 would probably work out, but if it's 300-400 then +1 probably
won't be a good idea.

I think it would be better to open up the reunion to include +1's/
S.O.'s before opening it up to faculty/staff/administrators. Another
thing to keep in mind is that not everyone may want to see certain
faculty/staff/administration. For example someone might not want to
bump into a teacher or administrator which gave them a particularly
hard time in h.s. some people may be caught of guard thinking they
would only be around their peers and may feel uncomfortable with
former authority figures in an environment which is supposed to be
laid back and relaxed. I know that the same argument could be made of
our peers, but the difference is that all alumni have the same right
to be there whereas faculty/staff/administration, not so much. I
understand some people have a favorite teacher and may want to go back
and say hi and thank you, but I don't think our reunion is a good
place to do so.

I know that at the meeting neither of us thought anyone would really
want to go back to BHS and decided not to arrange a tour of the school
through the alumni office, but perhaps we should rethink it since it
seems that there are some people who are sentimental, as Srav said,
and do want to go back and see how it has changed or who may want to
reconnect with old teachers. I suggest not including it on the
invitation, but posting on the facebook group for anyone interested to
contact us by a certain date and take it from there. Perhaps we could
word it somewhere along the lines of Please contact us at
bxsci04r...@gmail.com subject line TOUR by xx/xx/09 if you would
like to go on a tour of the school, depending on sufficient alumni
interest it may be arranged. Also most likely planning this would not
require everyone to help out and perhaps one or two people who are
interested in going back themselves could be in charge of this
especially since the alumni office is supposed to help out and the
school has student tour guides available.

Also I don't know if it's possible but maybe someone should try to
print out a copy of the people who have been invited to the fb group
so far this way we can try to contact the other 50-70 or so alumni who
are on fb via personal message and avoid sending one to someone who
has rejected the group invite.

Ciao,

Erika

Okay, I can see your point about inviting faculty/staff. I know I can
definitely think of people that I wouldn't mind not seeing again.

The group tour would be a good idea to offer as long as there's enough
interest. And if there isn't, oh well. I'm sure people can pay a visit
to the school themselves and see what it's like five years later. If
we do arrange a tour, I feel like it would have to be in early June
though. If memory serves me correctly, the Class of 04 graduated
around June 21st. Our tentative reunion date is scheduled for the 20th
which is probably right around the Class of 09's graduation date.
It'll also probably be around Regents Exam weeks and stuff which
clearly, are dates that are set in stone. Anyway, if we were to
arrange a tour in late June [which probably wont even be likely] the
alumni may be touring a school devoid of people...which kinda defeats
the purpose of having one in the first place. So a tour would have to
be in early June. Or even late May. I know it's kinda weird having the
tour and reunion far apart but I don't see any way around it.

I think it would be totally fine to have the tour separated from the
reunion. I think some people would love to go to the school while
others wouldn't really care too much about it. If you want to look
into seeing how complicated it would be to organize a trip back to the
school, do want to contact the alumni association? I can give you the
email address of Bryan Choi who I have been in contact with, he is
really helpful. This way we could just pick a date, and we wouldn't
really have to worry about minimum number of people or collecting any
monies, but just show up with other people.

I can handle setting up the Tour. If I could get Bryan's email
address, that'd be awesome. I'll ask him about the logistics of
setting one up first and then get back to you guys with what he says.
Then we can pick a date, probably sometime in early June like the 5th
[first Friday].
