These are the 100 top Web apps, 10 each in 10 categories, according to Webware users and the fans of the products that were finalists in the awards. You can see all the winners in one place, or page through the winners one-by-one in the Webware 100 Navigator. Over 1.9 million votes were cast for the 300 finalists this year. These finalists were selected (by Webware editors) from a pool of over 5000 qualifying nominees. But the 100 winners were selected by popular vote. These winning 100 products represent the best of the Web, according the people who use it. Voting overview As with the 2007 awards, the majority of votes, 88% this year, were cast for winning products. Of the ten categories, the most popular in terms of votes cast was Browsing. However it's worth noting that one of the entries in that category, Maxthon, drove an inordinate amount of votes by putting a vote-driving popup in the software itself. Even after we had the popup removed, though, Maxthon easily garnered a winning number of votes. If you subtract the initial Maxthon Effect votes from Browsing, by far the most voted-in category was Social, just like last year. And again, Gaia Online got the most votes in the category. However, competition in this space is heating up. Gaia's 136,000 votes, while well ahead of the 91,000 it won last year, represented only 34% of the votes cast in the Social category, compared to 60% last year. Just slightly more than half of all the votes cast in the Webware 100 went to the top 10 vote-getters. Six of these top 10 are no surprise at all: Facebook, Firefox, Google, iTunes, MySpace, and YouTube. But the other four may not be as familiar to most Webware readers: DeviantArt. A strong online arts community. Friendster. A social network that was big, became small, and may be making a resurgence. Gaia Online. A graphical social networking site for teenagers. As I said, a big winner in last year's Webware 100. Maxthon. It's a browser that's huge in China, not so much here in the US. The least active voting category was Productivity (64,000 votes), but the winning product with the smallest number of votes was, to my surprise, the useful and popular Zillow, in the Commerce category. It got 1,095 votes. Unlike last year, there were no winners with fewer than 1,000 votes. The average number of votes per winner: 16,675. Repeats and disappointments Many of the winners this year were also Webware 100 winners last year, although the tough competition did knock some of last year's winners off the list (thankfully, otherwise the results would be quite boring). Next year we'll do more to give startups and new products a chance to win an award. I was surprised to see Digg not garner a winning number of votes. Likewise Plaxo and Ning, two strong companies with active social networks. And personally, I really wanted Blist (review), which is brand new, to win an award, but being great isn't enough to win a popular vote -- you have to be known. Rafe's Top 10 We kept editorial influence out of the Webware 100 voting, but now that the results are in, I can pick my favorites of the winners. My criteria: Useful, interesting, fun, or some killer combination. And not the same thing that everyone else will pick (Google, Flickr, Facebook, etc.). Here they are: Picasa Web Albums. A pale shadow of Flickr in terms of buzz and community, but solid integration with Google's desktop photo app Picasa makes it a great place to publish photos designed for limited distribution, like friends and family. Meebo. The multi-IM client we've always wanted, now in handy browser format. Also has its own platform, the Meebo API, and powers public chats for several big sites. Worth watching. Miro. An open-source media player and organizer, it very nearly gives iTunes a run for its money, except that it doesn't sell annoying DRM'd content. uStream. The innovative live video streaming company. There are several imitators now, but uStream continues to power several geek (and other) Internet broadcasters. Twitter. The people who laugh at Twitter do not understand it. Pity them. RememberTheMilk. Handles the simple job of keeping your to-do list, but does it better than other similar apps while at the same time offering a ridiculous number of features to improve the experience. FotoFlexer. One of a group of online photo editors (see also, Picnik, not a Webware 100 winner) that is redefining what you can do on the Web. OpenID. The one-signon-for-all-sites standard continues to gain momentum. The OpenID concepts are still too foreign for most consumers to get, but the sites supporting OpenID keep making it simpler. Could easily become the Web-wide universal login within two years. Etsy. A beautiful marketplace for handcrafted goods. Bonus: It's also a great place to find craftspeople who will make just what you want them to make. And finally, my guily pleasure: Woot. This is the Home Shopping Network for geeks. Portugal Telecom e AirPlus TV entregam candidaturas à TDT Posted: 23 Apr 2008 11:58 AM CDT A PT e a AirPlus Tv foram as únicas candidatas à TDT. A empresa sueca já revelou que pretende fazer um investimento na plataforma de canais privados a rondar os 80 milhões de euros. A PT remete para amanhã mais pormenores. (Actualizada) Sem surpresas, a Portugal Telecom e a sueca AirPlus Tv entregaram hoje as candidaturas à Televisão Digital Terrestre. A empresa liderada por Zeinal Bava concorrente às plataformas paga e gratuita, enquanto a AirPlus Tv apenas apresentou proposta para a plataforma de serviços pagos incompleta, confirma o Diário Económico que na edição desta manhã explicava as razões. Segundo o diário o grupo, que vinha negociando com a Media Capital um acordo de acesso à rede de transmissão televisiva detida pelo grupo ficou sem alternativas depois da PT ter anunciado a compra da RETI. O negócio passa para as mãos do grupo as duas únicas infra-estruturas deste género existentes em Portugal. A outra é da PT. A AirPlus Tv ainda terá pedido ao governo para adiar o concurso de forma a permitir aos interessados encontrarem alternativas, o que neste caso significa negociar parcerias para garantir o acesso a uma infra-estrutura de transmissão, mas sem sucesso. O ministério de Mário Lino remeteu o pedido para a Anacom que manteve os timings. A empresa avançou na mesma como uma candidatura mas que está incompleta no que diz respeito aos preços previstos para os serviços. Informações avançadas pelo Jornal de Negócios dão conta de que a AirPlus Tv pretende investir entre 70 e 80 milhões na plataforma de conteúdos pagos, num projecto que prevê a cobertura de 75 por cento da população a três anos e meio. A PT, por seu lado, remeteu para amanhã qualquer esclarecimento. O responsável limitou-se a garantir que na altura estabelecida para o switch-off pela União Europeia, 2012, a TV analógica poderá de facto ser desligada. A PT marcou entretanto para amanhã às 15 horas uma conferência de imprensa. Potenciais concorrentes à TDT como a Vodafone ou a Ar Telecom já antes tinham revelado o seu desinteresse no concurso, que consideraram com um modelo definido pouco viável. Sonaecom já reagiu à falta de mais candidaturas à TDT A Sonaecom lançou um comunicado onde lamenta a falta de mais candidatos para operar a Televisão Digital Terrestre e considerando que esse é o resultado de um modelo de concurso que, por apostar fortemente na rápida cobertura do território, privilegia fortemente os detentores de infra-estruturas de transmissão. "É verdadeiramente surpreendente que, em lugar de se procurar evitar uma maior concentração de plataformas na titularidade do incumbente, as autoridades portuguesas tenham permitido o reforço da posição dominante no mercado global das telecomunicações por parte da entidade que sempre o dominou até hoje", diz o documento. Assinado pelo Conselho de administração da Sonaecom, o comunicado defende que a "televisão digital terrestre ficará integralmente dependente do modo como aquela empresa pretende configurar o negócio" e critica o acordo da PT com a Media Capital por passar também para o controlo do incumbente a segunda rede de transmissão do país na qual poderiam suportar-se outros candidatos, garantindo a capacidade de chegar nos prazos previstos às fatias da população estipuladas. "Fica, assim, no espírito de investidores nacionais e estrangeiros, a sensação de que se assiste a um ajuste directo travestido de concurso, com danos na credibilidade e no desenvolvimento do País, bem como no interesse da concorrência e dos consumidores", termina a mensagem. O afastamento dos potenciais utilizadores pelo uso de Linux foi um dos factores que levou a organização a ponderar o afastamento. A Computerworld avança que Nicholas Negroponte admite que a organização One Laptop per Child possa vir a adoptar apenas o sistema operativo Windows XP, com o interface Sugar, em detrimento do Linux nos computadores de baixo custo. De acordo com o fundador da iniciativa, o facto de se insistir que o XO poderia apenas utilizar software open-source acabou por afastar os potenciais utilizadores por estes duvidarem da usabilidade de um computador equipado com esse tipo de software. Nicholas Negroponte salientou ainda que o interface gráfico do Sugar cresceu de forma amorfa e que os computadores não suportam as versões mais recentes das animações flash, amplamente utilizadas em aplicações didácticas para crianças. Factores como estes levam o responsável a afirmar que é necessário dedicar alguma atenção ao futuro do XO sem haver preocupações "com o fundamentalismo da comunidade open-source", isto porque "é possível ser um defensor do código aberto sem ser fundamentalista", frisou. Por fim, o fundador da OLPC afirmou que a edição do XO que suporta os dois sistemas operativos estará pronta dentro em breve. Caso a OLPC venha a incluir apenas um sistema operativo, muitos serão os apoiantes do projecto a colocar de parte o seu suporte. Parabéns então, senhores do Colombo, por terem apagado do vosso parque de estacionamento quaisquer referências a números de zonas ou lugares! Ah, que delícia!... Filas e filas de pilares da mesma cor, de espaços delineados no chão sem um único número!... Hordas de clientes desorientados, empurrando carrinhos cheios de compras para trás e para a frente!... Não sei se isto é provisório ou não (as coisas boas são para ficar, amigos!), mas sei que com esta extraordinária iniciativa, o Colombo criou uma espécie de parque temático subterrâneo subordinado ao tema da desorientação, que é uma barrigada de diversão para pequenos e graúdos com boa tolerância ao CO2. Proposta para subir a parada: figurantes disfarçados de monstros e assassinos famosos de filmes de terror e momentos em que, durante um minuto, fica tudo às escuras. Pensem nisso!

FirewallScript Provides PHP-Based Protection Posted: 24 Apr 2008 07:40 PM CDT FirewallScript has just launched a software-based security service that can be used on any server that supports PHP5, and even provides support for shared hosts. The firewall is very similar in function to the popular open source firewall ModSecurity, but according to co-founder Ron Myers, there are some important differences. For one, a ModSecurity installation is server-wide, meaning that nobody on a shared hosting plan is able to install or modify its settings. This inevitably leads to problems, because ModSecurity tends to take a generalized approach to protection which may conflict with valid applications run by users who are unable to disable it. In contrast, FirewallScript can be installed by any user on a server, even under a shared hosting plan. All users can install or modify their security settings at will, and FirewallScript offers ‘Rule Packs’ which are pre-configured for certain web apps like WordPress and vBulletin. This allows users to tailor their security to cover things that applications like ModSecuity may have mishandled. Installation is also a breeze, requiring only a simple install script and a minimal amount of technical knowlege. I think that FirewallScript could have a place in the market, given that the vast majority of small-time sites are hosted on cheap shared hosting plans. But I question how many people will be unsatisfied with the security their plans already provide, or how many will care about security to begin with. Is Keyword Search About To Hit Its Breaking Point? Posted: 25 Apr 2008 10:43 AM CDT As the Web swells with more and more data, the predominant way of sifting through all of that data—keyword search—will one day break down in its ability to deliver the exact information we want at our fingertips. In fact, some argue that keyword search is already delivering diminishing returns—as the slide above by Nova Spivack implies. Spivack is the CEO and founder of semantic Web startup Radar Networks and is pushing his view that semantic search will help solve these problems. But anyone frustrated by the sense that it takes longer to find something on Google today than it did even a year ago knows there is some truth to his argument. “Keyword search is okay,” he says, “but if the information explosion continues we need something better.” Today, there are about 1.3 billion people on the Web, and more than 100 million active Websites. As more people pile on, the amount of information on the Web keeps growing exponentially to accommodate all those seekers, and they themselves feel compelled to put their own personal and social information onto the Web as well. At a certain point, with billions and billions of Web pages to sift through, keyword search just won’t cut it anymore. It’s a needle-in-the-haystack problem, with the haystacks just getting bigger and bigger every second. Spivack explains: Keyword search engines return haystacks, but what we really are looking for are the needles . The problem with keyword search such as Google’s approach is that only highly cited pages make it into the top results. You get a huge pile of results, but the page you want—the “needle” you are looking for—may not be highly cited by other pages and so it does not appear on the first page. This is because keyword search engines don’t understand your question, they just find pages that match the words in your question. So how do we get beyond keyword search and Google’s PageRank? There are many approaches being tried: social search, tagging, guided search, natural-language search, statistical methods, open search, semantic search, and (way out there) artificial intelligence. They all have their problems. Tags are too messy and inconsistent. Natural-language requires too much computing power, is difficult to scale, and doesn’t deal with structured data well. Semantic search is perhaps the most promising, but it essentially requires every single Webpage to be re-written. Spivack covered these issues during a presentation earlier this month at the Next Web conference in Amsterdam. It was one of the clearest explanations of the semantic Web I’ve heard so far (I’ve embedded his full slide show below). The semantic Web is nothing more than a set of standards that, if broadly adopted, would help computers extract meaning from the flood of data on the Web. But instead of a brute software approach, it puts intelligence into the data. “All you need to use that data is carried by the data itself,” says Spivack. Dumb software, smart data. That is an approach that scales no matter how many billions of Web pages are created. The point, says Spivack, is: To do for data what the Web did for documents. You are turning the Web into a database, and your data becomes a part of it. Your data becomes part of the worldwide database. The semantic Web will let you move from data record to data record, just like you go from Web page to Web page. There are many obstacles to the adoption of the semantic Web, but its goals are something worth striving for. What is certain is that search needs to evolve, and Google and Yahoo and Microsoft with it. Of course, they can adopt whichever approach or combination proves most effective. The question is: Will they, or are they too wedded to keyword search to move beyond it? Curiosamente a minha melhor apresentação de sempre foi uma que em condições normais não gosto de recordar, nem sequer conto com ela nas minhas listas de "Best of". Uma introdução de produto numa grande, grande empresa internacional, que até prometia bastante, feita numa sala de reuniões em que seis tipos muito cinzentinhos alinhavam as canetas, as folhas e os clips como se estivessem numa aula de geometria. O meu drama é que fui convocado para essa reunião/apresentação muito em cima da hora. Demasiado em cima da hora. Tão em cima da hora que me era impossível não comparecer ao almoço de aniversário de um grande amigo que decorria precisamente duas horas antes, em que, contrariamente ao que me é habitual, terei passado um pouco além da minha marca de ingestão de álcool. Nada de especial, não tenho por uso (ao contrário de muito CEO com quem tenho de conversar depois de almoço) de assistir alcoolizado a reuniões de trabalho. Pensei para comigo que me bastaria entrar mudo e sair calado mas nem tudo corre por vezes como prometemos a nós mesmos... Se há coisa que me faz saltar a válvula de pressão é que um tipo ou um organismo que quer ouvir falar do produto que represento me comece por falar mal dele. Aconteceu. Ouvi, durante alguns minutos, uma barragem de críticas ferozes e com a minha adrenalina aos saltos, não me consegui calar. Aprendi faz tempo com belos mestres, que não há nenhuma lei que me obrigue a estar sentado numa sala de reuniões. Ajuda-me a não adormecer e provoca um efeito dramático na actuação, intimidando quem permanece sentado (sim, já estudei o assunto e quem se levanta primeiro tem uma enorme vantagem porque mais ninguém o faz...). Lembro-me pouco desse discurso. Sei que falei como uma metralhadora e que por norma o faço no tom de voz que me deu o ADN que é bastante acima do nível normal. Quando caí em mim olhei para o relógio e percebi que esgrimia argumentos há quase trinta minutos. Levado pela euforia que já trazia dissimulada no sangue observei um por um os meus anfitriões de olhos pregados nos meus gestos (sim, eu falo deveras com as mãos). Achei que estavam nas cordas. Talvez não fossem eles. Talvez fosse eu que já estava nas cordas, principalmente quando percebi o que acabara de fazer. Dramaticamente e de forma estudada, elevei ainda mais o tom de voz e proferi a frase final: "E não sei se depois disto ainda restarão dúvidas!". Geraram-se alguns segundos de silêncio enquanto eu arrumava as minhas notas batendo o montinho de folhas A4. Como a primeira frase que me dirigem depois de uma longa exposição costuma ser reveladora dos resultados atingidos, fiquei expectante. O representante da corporação que nos recebera inspirou profunda e sonoramente e a primeira coisa que disse foi "Dasss, onde é que eu assino?". Lembro-me de ter pensado "Tenho que experimentar isto mais vezes" mas nunca mais tive coragem de o fazer naquelas condições. Há poucos dias sucedeu-me uma situação de reunião, previamente estudada na base do "Good cop/Bad cop". Repeti quase de forma decalcada a marcação dramática e os resultados afiguram-se positivos. A primeira frase de quem me escutava foi algo como "Gosto de o ver defender o seu produto como se ele fosse seu filho". Mas eram dez da manhã, eu não estava sob a influência de nenhuma substância e tudo fora previamente estudado em pormenor. Não tem o mesmo sabor...

I didn't expect to eat breakfast at a Denny's in Arlington Heights this morning anymore than I expected writing this blog from the Doubletree next door. This is what I get for three straight 12-hour days of coverage at Web 2.0 Expo? Aaargh. All right, enough whining. Last night, while waiting in line with a thousand other people to get the first flight out of town the airport could muster for me, I happened to stand in front of a guy wearing a Google T-shirt. Naturally, I asked if he'd just come from Web 2.0. In fact, he was two weeks away from starting his career for the search giant. And now, a shout-out to Ilya. Hope you get to Toronto soon, buddy. Ilya is a 25-year old programmer who will be working on Google's Global File System and Bigtable, pretty much programming back-end storage stuff for the company. He'll be based out of the company's Seattle office, where incidentally, a lot of the Apps guys work (Gmail and such). What are the chances we'd meet with so many other people running to get into the customer service line? Karma, baby.  He spoke fluently about any number of high-tech topics I threw at him in the 3-plus hours (10:30 p.m. or so until 2 a.m., no kidding) we waited in line, and what impressed me is that even though he hadn't heard of some of the things I asked about (What is Twitter?!), within 10 seconds of me explaining it, he picked right up on the consciousness stream. Just like Vic Gundotra, and any of the executives I met last December at Google, he was sharp as a tack. So now I'm doing a reversal on my private view that the so-called Google brain drain was hurting the company. As long as they keep reloading with smart guys like Ilya, the company is going to be just fine.  I wish I could tell you more about exactly what Ilya is doing for the company, but it goes beyond my knowledge base. In short, he will be trying to rev storage processing cycles to new speeds and efficiency, working on ways to better automate the company's monumentally immense storage stuff. I asked what he was doing in his 20 percent time, but he didn't want to tip his hand on that one, with good reason. Apparently, one Google programmer friend of his was on a team that won an award for something they built on their 20 percent time. I asked if the cash prize was $50,000 or something like that. It turned out to be $350,000 -- and he was one of the lower rungs on the ladder. This vision of Google programmers working their way through a maze to get that big hunk of cheese will stay with me. With incentives like that, Google won't likely run out of sharp tacks soon. Ilya is also trying to correct where he went wrong three years ago when he came out of college and turned down a position at Google to work for a storage startup. Google would have given him 4,000 shares, which he estimates would be worth over $1.5 million. Ouch. Meanwhile, please let my luggage be waiting for me in Hartford when I touch down at 4:30 this afternoon. Moreover, no more flights through the Windy City for me. You can all have them.

uTorrent Marked as Trojan by Avast Antivirus Posted: 28 Apr 2008 05:15 AM CDT Of course, there is nothing wrong with uTorrent. The application somehow got listed in Avast’s list of trojans, resulting in a false positive. uTorrent 1.7.7 was mistakenly listed as “Win32:Poison-DU [Trj]“, whereas the newer Beta’s were unaffected. Such ‘false positives’ often happen with other harmless applications - better safe than sorry- but since uTorrent doubled its user base in just 12 months and is installed on millions of computers, this problem affected a sizable number of people. It didn’t take long before the issue was reported to Avast, and after approximately 5 hours the problem was fixed. Earlier this week it became clear that uTorrent’s WebUI (+ Azureus and TorrentFlux) were vulnerable to several exploits. Apparently the vulnerabilities in the webUI, allow outsiders to take over uTorrent and download random content onto one’s system. uTorrent developer Greg Hazel told TorrentFreak that he is aware of the issue and working on a fix. Eu fiquei com dúvidas, quer pelo que via mas mais pelo que não consegui escutar. Supermicro, uma má experiência Posted: 24 Apr 2008 04:43 PM CDT Um amigo meu precisou de actualizar um servidor na empresa dele, e falou comigo para o ajuadar a escolher. A ideia era substituir um PC normal, com mais de 10 anos, que está a funcionar como servidor principal para toda a empresa com uns 15 utilizadores. Como o hardware “barato” é cada vez mais fraco pensei em comprar um servidor de entrada de gama e não um PC especial de corrida. Como o novo servidor ia servir diversas máquinas virtuais, a memória, o número de núcleos de CPU e o espaço em disco eram as características mais importantes.  Um outro amigo aconselhou-me um supermicro, ele travalhava na netdominium que é o representante oficial para  Portugal. Acabei por escolher  SuperServer 5035G-TB, Pentium Quad core, 4G de RAM e dois discos de 500G. Feita a encomenda fiquei à espera, três dias úteis diziam eles. Esperei, esperei, esperei e nada. Nem com contacto lá de dentro consegui ter uma certeza de entrega. Passado mais de um mês cancelei a encomenda. No mesmo dia fiz a encomenda de um DELL PowerEdge 840, com o mesmo disco, a mesma RAM mas com processadores Xeon. A diferença no preço foi de cerca de 20%, para baixo. Depois disto percebi porque é que o meu amigo queria sair, e saiu da netdominium, e porque é que um outro amigo estava com tanta dificuldade em conseguir uns dissipadores para uma MB SuperMicro.

As novidades do Ubuntu 8.04 não são apenas a nível de melhorias segurança e estabilidade do sistema operativo, mas também na implementação de novas ferramentas que facilitem o uso da distribuição por parte de um novato no mundo Linux. Esta nova versão tem o nome de Hardy Heron, apresentando o gestor de janelas Gnome 2.22, o Xorg 7.3 e tem como núcleo o kernel linux 2.6.24. Os protestos dos utilizadores que querem que o Windows XP se mantenha no mercado, apesar do lançamento do Vista, parecem estar a dar resultado. Steve Ballmer, presidente da Microsoft, admitiu hoje que a empresa poderá reconsiderar a data marcada para deixar de vender o sistema operativo. Steve Ballmer defendeu porém que os dados apontam actualmente para uma maioria de vendas do novos PCs com Vista. "Esta é a verdade estatística", garantiu aos jornalistas numa conferência de imprensa na Bélgica, segundo citação de vários meios de comunicação internacionais. Nos últimos meses têm-se multiplicado as iniciativas que pretendem defender a continuidade do Windows XP no mercado, apesar do seus seis anos de existência e do lançamento do sucessor Windows Vista em Janeiro do ano passado. A post from February detailed the benefits of the future Google integration: connecting with other Google services, better performance and new features. "Why not build new services and integrate at the same time? (...) Our perspective is that the time you lose trying to continuously merge an updated legacy codebase with a new rewrite causes you [to] be in a world of never actually getting the integration done because you're constantly working on merge problems." It seems that the Googlizied FeedBurner will be brought to life soon. FeedBurner Blog announces that "in the coming weeks, upon visiting www.feedburner.com, selected publishers will have the opportunity to sign in using their Google Account". That means you will be offered the option to choose a Google account as a new home for FeedBurner. The posts mentions that the integration with other services will be added gradually and it's easy to anticipate the relaunch of AdSense for feeds or a new tab in AdWords. The most visible side-effect of the Google ownership is that the premium accounts and MyBrand are free, so you might save at least $96/year. Actualmente, a aplicação detém uma quota de utilização de 29% na Europa e de 22,4% em Portugal, que mantém a 24ª posição no ranking europeu. O browser da Fundação Mozilla continua a aumentar a sua quota de mercado na Europa, apurou a consultora Xiti. Só no último mês, a aplicação conquistou perto de 29 por cento de participação e, em países como a Finlândia, Eslovénia ou Polónia, já se tornou o browser mais procurado, com níveis de utilização na ordem dos 43 a 46 por cento. Em Portugal, o número de utilizadores do browser open-source também tem vindo a aumentar e, actualmente, a aplicação conta com uma utilização de 22,4 por cento, ou seja, 0,7 por cento mais do que em Fevereiro. Contudo, Portugal mantém o 24º posto na lista da Xiti. Os números da empresa de medição de audiências online dizem ainda que a taxa de utilização do Firefox aumentou 4,5 por cento em termos homólogos. No que se refere à concorrência, a Xiti verificou que o Internet Explorer perdeu quota de mercado no mês passado, fixando a sua participação na Europa nos 65 por cento. O Firefox está em segundo lugar, com os já referidos 28,8 pontos percentuais, seguido do Opera (3,3 por cento) e do Safari (2,3 por cento). O mercado europeu assume-se assim como o segundo onde o Firefox consegue maior participação, sendo apenas superado pela Oceânia, onde a quota se fixa nos 31,2 por cento. Metade dos internautas portugueses acede ao YouTube Posted: 30 Apr 2008 10:58 AM CDT Cinco minutos era o tempo que cada utilizador dispensava em média ao YouTube em Janeiro de 2006. Em Março deste ano o valor tinha aumentado para 1h21m. Igualmente expressivo é o crescimento do número de utilizadores do serviço, que aumentou 14 vezes. O site de partilha de vídeos o YouTube está em Portugal há três anos. Em Janeiro de 2006 o site somava 107 mil utilizadores únicos. Desde então multiplicou por 14 o número de utilizadores e no último Netpanel da Marktest regista 1,5 milhões de utilizadores únicos, números relativos ao último mês de Março e que têm em conta um universo de internautas com idades superiores a 4 anos e meio. Os valores apurados indicam que metade dos internautas usa o site de vídeos da Google. Aumento exponencial teve também o número de páginas consultadas no serviço e o tempo que cada utilizador ali despende. O número de páginas visitadas multiplicou-se por 270 vezes para cem milhões de páginas em Março, enquanto o tempo de acesso ao site passou de 8 mil horas em Janeiro de 2006 para 2 milhões de horas em Março. Se na primeira análise da Marktest cada utilizador gastava em média 5 minutos com o serviço, em Março a média tinha passado para 1 hora e 21 minutos.
