i hope this group becomes useful, oh, here's a chance... :)
i was chatting to andy keetch (and mat walker separately) the other
day about the brighton festival, and the various digital activities,
and had the idea to do something similar to the Idea Shop that Ogilvy
did recently..
i figure if we get an empty shop from the council for a about a week
(or more?) during the festival, and a band of local experts to join in
and give up some time, it could work.
ideas or thoughts?

Great idea. Love to help.
Would it be a booked slot, digital clinic?

i think it can be all those things, depending on who's available.
maybe do days specific to certain areas? or is it better to mix it up,
to help people across all of that?
maybe if we start by seeing who we can get some interest from in being
an expert, and then build around the skills available.
icrossing, nixon mccinnes, clear left, madgex, scip, kerb, cogapp..
all come to mind, and then a whole load of individuals.
i think arranged slots might be best, but to also have drop-in
periods, maybe at the end of each day.

no idea why i'm so slow replying to this......
or if anybody will see this now......
ruth jamieson from the ogilvy idea shop spoke at the slack space q&a last week:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=336045798596
she's a copywriter at ogilvy. in the past she worked with my colleague
charlie davies at the face (how i know her - the other connection is
brixton village: i'm an associate of an agency called spacemakers,
which pulled together the brixton market regeneration project, of
which the ogilvy idea shop was part).
from her talk, i think the 'story' was about getting advertising wonks
who usually get paid for being clever, creative for big brands for
lots of £ doing the same work for free for the local corner shop (for
eg).
i spoke a little with her about how they might open the idea up:
- she's definitely up for rolling it out to brighton and any help
anybody can give would be great
- she has the green light to run one in east london in may and then
she'll start to think about how a brighton one could work
- she'll get in touch then to thrash it out
- dave eggers's 826 valencia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/826_Valencia
http://www.ted.com/talks/dave_eggers_makes_his_ted_prize_wish_once_upon_a_school.html
might be a nice model for opening it up - setting two levels/ ways to
use the original 'source code' of the project. there are now several
sister projects, and many affiliated projects.
