February Monthly Meeting

Date: Thursday, February 1st, 2024

Location: New Ventures/Gallatin Home Brew Supplies

Old Biz

  • January meeting was at Shine and the first part of our stout tasting with one milk stout and 2 oatmeal stouts. Ursula Oatmeal stout from Burnt Tree was the overall favorite.

  • Annual membership dues for 2024 are $30. Can be paid on the website. Dues help pay for club events such as the campout/stein beer and off-flavor tasting as well as administrative costs like insurance.

  • Iron brewer - Targeting late May for the tasting. Any members that still want to get in on the competition can be assigned an ingredient by officers.

  • Club campout and stein beer brew - We have the group site at Spire Rock Campground reserved for June 28-30th. Same spot as last year.

New Biz

  • Homegrown Homebrew Competition - Judging, June 8th - The club’s annual homebrew competition with Katabatic Brewing. Best in Show prize is the opportunity to brew their beer at Katabatic Brewing! Additional prizes for runner-ups. Brew club members get two free entries. Most beer styles are welcome, but no sour or barrel aged beers.

    • Submissions window will be ~2 week period prior to judging date

  • Additional Topics

    • Jake nominated and elected to secretary role

Stout Tasting

  • Ryan Beal to lead the second part of the stout style tasting with additional commercial & club homebrew examples.

    • Samuel Smith Imperial Stout, Evan’s Oaked Imperial Stout, Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout, Founders KBS

Structured Homebrew Tasting

  • Anyone can volunteer their homebrew for a tasting. This is an organized critical tasting, similar to how judges would taste a beer at a competition to provide thorough feedback to the brewer. Can include the flavors/aromas that people perceive, how it fits within its style, any present flaws, and overall quality/enjoyment of the brew.

Adjourn to socialize and share homebrew
