The city shelter called cuz they got in a male/female rat & the female had babies! Male is now neutered and for some reason there's only 2 babies. (if you knew our shelter you'd know that the rest probably died)
I went down to check them out etc. Male is very sweet, mom is nice but not real socialble and the babies is nuts!! Lead worker said babies had "ring tail" cuz kept in too humid of an area so the tails are just stubs. They've been down there since January but they said they wanted to get the babies healthy & fix the dad. So I wanted mom & dad for obivous reasons but being the selfish people they are, they only wanted to get rid of the babies so I took them!!!
Haven't told Tim yet ;-) that will not be fun!
The baby with the shortest tail (in the potty) actually squeezed through the cage bars to get to me, they said that was the first time she did that. The other girl is a bit more skittish but friendly.
Going to give the shelter by rat info booklet and list of Mpls shelters who take rats, ours don't up here.
So, need some easy, cute names!

Good for you Jan, thanks for taking them in you are a treasure. Shame on the shelter. Ringtail occurs when the humidity is too low, not too high.

It is probably not ringtail. It starts out looking like the tail is being pinched in multiple places, like a ‘ring” … does not happen overnight. They might have lost the ends that way, or might not ..

They will do well anyway

Love

I don't believe what she says any way. She could have said low humidity but either way, it use to be the garage & not much heat back there.  At least these 2 will have a good happy life. The one with the shortest tail, it's really strong ;-) & Tim says at least they can't whip in my mouth like they do LOL
I think they may be kissers too cuz they sure are curious about my face.
Nice to have some again & start with babies ;-)
