Google has removed the files feature from Groups, which of course
means we've lost the rules file. I'll reshuffle them into a welcome
message but they're pasted below (copy/paste from original rules
posting). I consider this subject to be within the bounds but a good
opportunity for a reminder.
To maintain everyone's sanity, there are two rules, which will be
enforced with polite requests first and banhammer second:
1) Be polite. Avoiding four-letter words and comments on someone's
ancestry is only part of this. Equally important are not attributing
malice just because someone disagrees, and knowing when to drop a
subject. This is a discussion list, not Monty Python's "Argument"
sketch.

2) Abstract facilities discussions/arguments are verboten. If you've
got something specific to say about a specific project, or even a
specific concept, go for it! But if there's no practical purpose,
don't go stirring up the fire.
Examples of not-allowed:
Bike lanes suck!
Bike lanes rock!
If we build facilities everywhere, we will enter a blissful utopia!
If we build any facilities whatsoever, everyone will die!
Forester is a prophet!
Forester is a moron!
Examples of allowed:
What's this business about bike lanes and "right hooks"? What are the
issues? How can they be avoided?
I'm really uncomfortable crossing Cambridge St. on the PDW path. Is
there a good way to deal with this intersection?
The Watertown Branch path from School St. to Grove is finished! (yes,
I wish....) [2019: Well, good things do occasionally happen?]
I hope the distinction is clear.
