The BRA, DCR, and the Boston Harbor Association have put together the Harborwalk
along much of Boston's waterfront, including behind the Bayside Expo Center.
Around downtown Boston, it is often (maybe mostly) on private property and
satisfies public access requirements in state law and requirements that the
BRA places on developers. South from Castle Island in South Boston, the
Harborwalk is usually on DCR land and seems to follow the tidal part of the
Neponset River all of the way to Dorchester Lower Mills. The South Bay
*Harbor Trail* runs from Ruggles Station to Fan Pier, often on Boston city
property, such as along Melnea Cass Boulevard and is sometimes being developed
by the City of Boston or abutters such as the Crosstown development. The
most interesting, recently complete part of that trail is along the south
bank of the Fort Point Channel from West Broadway to Summer St.
