Sam Doran, Local Historian and B&M Railroad Buff; and Tom Fortmann, Local Cyclist and Bikeway Co-Founder
Tom and Sam will give an illustrated history of the Lexington and West Cambridge
Branch Railroad: its conception, birth, heyday, decline, death, and finally its rebirth as the Minuteman Commuter Bikeway, our nation’s 500th rail-trail and inspiration for many other
rail-trails in the region. Refreshments!
Throughout September:
"Trains and Bicycles in Lexington" --
a CVS Pharmacy Window illustrated display of the history of the railroad and the bikeway, 1735 Mass Ave., Lexington.
"Bikes, the Bikeway, and Surrounds" --
a display of the work of 25 artists who have recreated in a variety of artistic mediums some of your favorite places along the bikeway.
Public Reception is Friday, September 14, 7:30 to 8:30 pm.
