You are certainly permitted and encouraged to have such a post on the
list.
We have so few Borzoi (600 pups a year or so total registered with the AKC)
that loosing diversity in our gene pool is a major threat to the breed.
Breeding a litter from a dog of a unique origin is always desirable and
carrying on Donna's breeding programs is something that this web list was
established to encourage.
This is a hard time for Borzoi breeders since the reproductive life span
of our dogs is limited to 9 to 10 years max for the bitches and
sometimes less for the males.
During the Great Depression and WW II that followed many dog breeds
suffered major genetic bottle necks. I need to check the exact numbers but
as I recall - in the 1920's the AKC was registering around 1500 Borzois a
year. From 1941 to 1945 only a total of 300+ were registered for all of
those years, not per year.

That's amazing--it really was a Roaring Twenties dog, then.

I'm not sure if this is permitted on this group, but I will go for it-if not
the group administrator can let me know.
Donna's imported puppy girl, Zara went to live with Anne Midgarden and was
with her for several years. She is now living with us, here at Phoenixx
Borzoi where she is quite the princess and the most wonderful and well
tempered Borzoi you could imagine.
We are considering doing a co-breeding with Anne of Zara and DC Teine Twist
of Fate, FCH (Tiger) Zara also is an AKC FCH and an ASFA FCH and was the
BCOA Top Open Field courser in 2008.
We are debating this breeding because of the times we are in -mostly because
of the economy and we cannot absorb extra puppies right now. So, I thought
I would contact all of you here to ask if anyone would be interested in a
puppy from this proposed breeding. Zara is in season now and if bred would
have the litter in late April. Right now it looks like we have 4 pups spoken
for but would like to have prospects for more.
You can see photos of Zara on our website: www.phoenixxborzoi.com in the
gallery section on the news page under "Zarah's Russian breeder" you will
access the IZ Razdolia kennel page. Zarah is listed in the "Z" litter along
with the pedigree.
Anne's website is at:
http://www.nktelco.net/teine/teine.htm
There you can see photos of Tiger along with his pedigree.
You can contact us directly at phoenix...@peoplepc.com and Anne at:
teine...@nktelco.net
Thank you

Tiger is a wonderful dog and I bet Donna would have loved him.

you are certainly permitted to have such a post on the list. The only
posts I have taken any action on were a series of posts that related
to Donna's accident where she was convicted of drunk driving and the
other driver was severely injured - not killed. One poster persisted in
arguing that Donna was convicted of vehicular manslaughter, which was
not true.
I finally had to ban the poster as the poster would not back down and was
unwilling to abandon the discussion. This was quite soon after Donna's
murder and other people on the list were becoming quite distressed.
