Periodically I still think of Donna - I miss her presence in the Borzoi
world. In some ways I am fortunate for the visual image that comes to my
mind when I remember her is of her laughing and enjoying her dogs.

However the image that comes to my heart is the tragedy of her
passing. Violence against women is still a major problem, not only in
North America, but world wide. Many cultures and belief systems devalue
women and allow people to direct anger at them as a class.

Donna actually was the second one of my personal friends who was a
victum of a violent attack by a intimante acquaintance. Mib, my other
friend was more fortunate - when her husband tied her up and was
slicing at her with a knife the husband's brother showed up as an
unexpected visitor and stopped the husband. Husband was charged by the
State of Pennsylvania and before the case got to trial he killed himself.

Pennsylvania takes violence against women more seriously than W VA
seemed to - the victum does not have a choice as to wether the case
is prosecuted - the state prosecutes.

Mib told me that she was under a lot of pressure from her husband's family
and his PREVIOUS wife not to press charges.

Shortly after Donna's death I was mentioning the circumstances to oen
of the women who works at my vet's and she told me about her teen age
daughter's stalker - a hope to be boyfriend who was shadowing the girl
and lurking about and making threats.

These things are so serious and often people do not take the initial
stages of the danger seriosuly.

Here's too Donna!

even though almost 5 years have passed. I do try to think about the good
times we had when she was out here and not about the senseless tragedy
of her murder.

I think of Donna often as well....every time one of her "granddogs" does something good I wonder if she's out there and if she's as pleased as I think she would be:))  Losing Marshall was so very hard...not just because I loved him so much but because I also felt I was losing a piece of Donna.  I also have this feeling as I've lost each of the dogs my late husband Chuck & I bred.  I only have one kiddo left who ever knew Chuck.  Ahhh....time marches on......
