Tomorrow it will be four years since the horrible tragedy. Please

I always do remember her, this time of year. At other times, too, but always when time for the Cumberland show rolls around, because that was the last time I saw her.

I saw one of her beautiful dogs, the Russian import Zara, chasing a jackrabbit not too long ago. I hope Donna could see how happy she is.

Fall is the time of year when the days are getting shorter and our
thoughts turn to the winter. I think about Donna frequently. She was
generally such a happy person. The world is less for her being taken
from it.

That Friday, Anne was here at our house in VA conducting one of her speed studies-she was here for just that day and had talked to Donna on her way here. Anne called me the next morning to tell us the terrible news- I will never forget that.

Zara is with us now and such a sweet bitch, quite the princess and just last week she stole a few slices of pizza from the counter top<G>. She does love to chase those jacks! We are really happy that she came to live with us.

You know, I have not deleted Donna’s name from our list of email contacts- somehow I just can’t do it. I think doing so will make her being gone really permanent.

She is missed.

It doesn't seem like four years, it seems like yesterday.

I had only just seen Donna a few weeks before when I driven up to help
her with the shows as was our tradition. We had actually enjoyed
staying late and cleaning up the showgrounds, racing around on the golf
carts and laughing hysterically the whole time. Donna was looking
forward to the holidays and had company for the winter that year. Life
was changing and it was for the better. But that hope for the future
was snatched away in the worst possible way. I drove to WV in shock,
assisted picking up her dogs and searching for her beloved cat, having
to witness the horror of her loss for days . Packing her things and not
wanting to deal with the fact she was gone forever. Asking myself and
God why do terrible things happen to good people? I never found the
answer and have resigned myself to the fact, I never will. I still
cannot bring myself to attend the Cumberland weekend but perhaps in
time. For now I still mourn her.

How I miss her always present sense of humor, her love for her friends
and dogs and the happiness she brought to so many. I think I realized
just how special she was to me when standing ringside at the Centennial
National after Sky had won BOB, she was the first to congratulate
myself and Susan with her tears of joy for her friends flowing freely.
It made that memory and win even more special. I hold on to the joy she
brought us and how truly privileged I was to call her friend.
