Last Chance for Day Camp

Considering that the two scheduled trainings for Day Camp have passed, Kathy Bell and Cheri Jacobsen are willing to train anyone who would like to host a day camp.  However, these must be completed by May.  For more information, please contact Kurt at khof...@bsamial.org

Roundtable
Our next Roundtable is Thursday, April 14 starting at 7 PM.  Cubscouters:  Don't forget to bring your Pack's summer calendar!  Boy Scouters:  We will be offering Youth Protection training for all of you, as well as going through the resources available to protect and educate Scouts about Youth Protection.  Our Training Team is offering New Leader Essentials as well.  (We will offer Youth Protection Training for Cub Scouters at the May Roundtable).

Training 
The last opportunity for Cub Scout leader training before summer is being offered by the Broken Arrow district.  On April 9, starting at 8:30 AM at Howe Hall, Iowa State University (a fee of $5 is being charged), they are offering:

    Webelos Den Leader
    Cubmaster
    Scoutmaster
    Venture Crew Advisor
A training opportunity is being offered by the Raccoon River Valley district for Boy Scout leaders.  They are offering Scoutmaster training in three different parts.  The first includes New Leader Essentials starting at 7 PM on April 13 at Merrill Middle School (5301 Grand Av., Des Moines).  The second session is on April 16, starting at 8 AM at St. Paul Presbyterian Church (6426 Merle Hay Rd., Johnston).  The third session is on April 19, starting at 6:30 PM again at St. Paul Presbyterian Church.  More information is available by contacting Jim Schumaker at jschu...@dwx.com.

Drake Relays Parade

Your unit is invited to join us for the Drake Relays Parade on Saturday, April 23rd.  Details will be available at the April 14 Roundtable.

Spring Camporee
This year's spring camporee is being hosted by Troop 137 from Corydon.  The theme is Invisible Herd.  Scouts will learn about Leave No Trace camping techniques.  Preregistration is preferred.  You can get more details from your Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, or Webelos Den Leader. (Leaders, you should have received the flier in the mail).  Cost is $12 per person if you register on or before April 15, and $24 after April 15.

Des Moines Menace Soccer

Your Scouts have the opportunity to join the Des Moines Menace for a soccer clinic in late June (Location TBA) and them cheer them on July 2 at 7:30 PM, more details will be at the April 14 Roundtable.

Iowa Cubs

Batter up!  The Iowa Cubs game will be Sunday, August 21st.  Be on the lookout for more details as they become available.

Attention Scoutmasters!
Are you looking for boys to invite to your Troop Open House?  Kurt has a listing of all the boys dropped from Cub Scout Pack rosters from the past 3 years.  All of these boys are now in 5th and 6th grades.  The lists of the dropped Scouts from your area will be available at the April 14 Roundtable.

Troops going to Mitigwa
There are two opportunities for you to get the information on summercamp this summer. The first is April 20 starting at 7:00 PM at Altoona Public Library, 700 8th St., Altoona.  The second is April 26 starting at 7:00PM at the Learning Resource Center for West Des Moines Schools, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines.  You only need to attend one of these meetings.  At these meetings, you will meet the new Camp Director, Lane Stumme, receive your camp leaders guide, and receive all the instructions for merit badge registration.  If you have any questions, please contact Lane Stumme at lst...@bsamail.org or by calling (515) 266-2135.
