The annual Statewide Prairie Rescue is seeking adults and youth who want
hands-on experience in Iowa's prairies while helping preserve them for future
generations. This year's "rescue" includes 24 volunteer events held throughout
Iowa. The annual event got its name because, at most sites, volunteers "rescue"
native prairie by cutting back invasive species--though some sites offer seed
planting, prescribed burns or other activities. The 24 events range from
mid-March to mid-May, but most are held on April 16 or April 23 in honor of
Earth Day. Local experts are on hand at each site to organize the work while
teaching participants about this important ecosystem.

NOTE: If you're planning to bring a group to one of these events, it's wise to
contact the local site manager (contact information is on website) to make sure
their activity is appropriate for your age group and that they (or you) can
provide enough equipment or other materials for to accommodate
everyone.
