Friends of Scouting
Who ever in our district raises the most money, over $500, for Friends of Scouting by 3 PM next Thursday will win a $100 Gift Certificate to the Scout Shop.  Much of our district has completed Friends of Scouting, and thank you.  However there are a few that have yet to complete Friends of Scouting.  The following units still need to schedule/reschedule theirs:
Packs:  45
Troops:  102, 116, 119, 137, 333
Friends of Scouting is an important part of your unit.  It pays for training for you as leaders, program materials for Roundtables, staff to put things together like fliers for your unit.  Also, there are two opportunities to bring the money that Friends of Scouting raises right back to your unit through the Quality Unit Plus Award and the Friends of Scouting Award.  For information on these two awards, contact Ted Olsen at tol...@bsamail.org. Please help us have a successful year for Bo Qui!
To schedule your unit's Friends of Scouting Presentation, please contact:  Dan Flowers at friendso...@bo-qui.dm-iowa.com, Mariann Edris at med...@sullivan-ward.com, or Kurt Hoffmann at khof...@bsamail.org. Last Chance for Cub Scout Day Camp

Day Camp

Considering that the two scheduled trainings for Day Camp have passed, Kathy Bell and Cheri Jacobsen are willing to train anyone who would like to host a day camp.  However, these must be completed by May.  For more information, please contact Kurt at khof...@bsamial.org.

Spring Camporee
This year's spring camporee is being hosted by Troop 137 from Corydon.  The theme is Invisible Herd.  Scouts will learn about Leave No Trace camping techniques.  There also may be some free time for fishing (if you're licensed), patch trading, etc.  Scouts need to be prepared to carry the items listed on page 207 of their Handbooks for a 6 mile hike.  Those units that have signed up will be receiving final details in the mail soon.

Cub Scout Adventure Extravaganza

Our district is heading up a recruiting/fun day at Merle Hay Mall on May 14th from 10 AM to 4 PM.  Police and Fire Equipment will be on display, as well as military equipment form the Iowa Army National Guard.  We are asking for packs that want to participate to bring a carnival game for kids to play.  We also have fliers available to distribute to your pack and your school.  Please contact Lisa Harwerth at lharw...@yahoo.com for more information.

Cub Scout Camp Adventure Day

On Saturday, May 7th, from 1 Pm to 4 PM Camp Mitigwa will be open for Cub Scout families and new Cub Scouts.  There will be BB guns, archery campfires, nature hikes, confidence games, tours of camp, all three forts will be open, S'mores, and much more.  Fliers for this event are available to distribute to your pack or school.  Contact Kurt at khof...@bsamail.org for more information.

Should you need fliers for your school, please contact Kurt at khof...@bsamail.org or 515-266-2135 or 800-999-7268 to order fliers for distribution at your school.  We also have posters.  Please give us at least 4 days of lead time to get everything printed.

Troops going to Mitigwa
There are two opportunities for you to get the information on summercamp this summer. The first is April 20 starting at 7:00 PM at Altoona Public Library, 700 8th St., Altoona.  The second is April 26 starting at 7:00PM at the Learning Resource Center for West Des Moines Schools, 3550 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines.  You only need to attend one of these meetings.  At these meetings, you will meet the new Camp Director, Lane Stumme, receive your camp leaders guide, and receive all the instructions for merit badge registration.  If you have any questions, please contact Lane Stumme at lst...@bsamail.org or by calling (515) 266-2135.
