to Black & White Photography
As list owner I welcome the new members who have joined this list
recently. Its not an active list but I hope that some of these new
members will begin some discussions relevant to B&W photography. When
I inherited this list from its originator photography was still nearly
all "chemical" that is, on film. However these days much photography
is by electronic means, but B&W is still possible. For many decades
B&W photography was dominant because color photography was difficult
and expensive. Even after the invention of "multiple layer" color
films, notably Kodachrome, color work continued to be expensive and,
for several decades, beyond the individual photographer to process.
That has changed completely in recent years where color became about
as cheap and as easy to process as B&W. Nonetheless, there is still
something fascinating about working in monochrome, perhaps because,
like radio drama, it leaves something to the imagination.
I hope to hear from those working in monochrome, whether film or
digital, please jump in and post.
