The sample images pack includes a GIF image for use in e-mail and web
applications, a color BMP, TIFF and JPEG for color print applications,
a black and white line drawing and a black and white grey scale image.
When you download the sample image pack, save it to disk, selecting
your desktop as the save location. The image pack is a self-extracting
executable. Find the file name/icon on your desktop and double click
on it to extract the individual image files. Extract the image files to
your MY PICTURES folder.
Open MS Word and using the INSERT menu, select "Picture/From File".
The names of all of the files in your MY PICTURES folder should
display, if not navigate to your MY PICTURES folder. Click on the name
of the first BITSELA file, note the file type by the extension
(gif/tiff/jpeg/bmp),and then click the INSERT button. Type the file
extension so you will be able to identify each image type and press
enter to go to a new line. Continue doing this until you have placed
each image into your Word document (skip the GIF). Now print the page
and you will have a record of how each image type prints on your
computer.
You may wish to try printing the images in larger and smaller sizes.
To do this in MS Word simply click on the image, a box will appear
around the image. Click and drag on one of the corner dots to make the
image the size you wish.
You will find that the GIF image gets fuzzy when enlarged, but the BMP
and TIFFs should enlarge to a reasonable size and still keep their
resolution.
This exercise will give you an opportunity to discover which Bitsela
image types print the best on your printer. Also, you will see the
difference between a black and white line drawing and a grey scale
image. You may wish to delete the image types that do not work well on
your system.
Try attaching the GIF to an e-mail message and send it to a friend!
Optionally, try using the images in your other print applications, such
as Broderbund Print Shop or Microsoft Publisher.
