Why do the graphics have an ART extension after I download them?
We asked AOL for help with this problem experienced by some AOL users.
Here is their answer:

"If you are trying to save a GIF or JPG file, but it is saving as an
ART file it means your browser is set to use compressed graphics.
Follow the steps below to correct the problem.

To turn off Compressed Graphics, do the following:
1. Click on the MY AOL icon and select PREFERENCES.
NOTE: If the computer hangs after clicking on PREFERENCES, you will
need to follow these steps while online.
2. Click on the WWW button.
3. Click on the WEB GRAPHICS tab.
4. Make sure that there is no check in front of USE COMPRESSED
GRAPHICS. If there is a check, click on it to remove the check.
5. Click APPLY and then OK.
6. Close PREFERENCES.

Now when you go to save a graphic from a web site it should give you
the option for the correct file extension, ie: .BMP, .GIF, or .JPG. "
