Workshop on" Role of System Biology and Algorithms in Drug Discovery Process"
26th -28th December 2008
Venue: DBT –BIF Centre, Maharani Lakshmi Ammani College for Women,
18th Cross, Malleshwaram, Bangalore
This is a advanced level course focusing on different data mining, data analysis and biological network modeling issues from ~omics data
Back ground :
Increasing numbers of complete genomic sequences are available and high-throughput methods have been developed to study gene expression (transcriptomics), proteins (proteomics) and metabolite levels (metabolomics). Because high-throughput methods generate large datasets. So, special attention focusing on analysis and visualization techniques are required to extract relevant information for elucidating the function of genes, proteins and metabolites, the interactions between these molecules and the underlying regulatory mechanisms. To capture the real biological picture efficient algorithms are becomes necessary and state of the art.
Course objective:
The objective of this course is to discuss different algorithms and their application to genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics studies. Nevertheless, algorithms for systems biology will also be discussed. Hands on practical's will be given on each day on transcripomics analysis, systems biology and data visualization techniques.
Course Design :
This course will be given in four days. Each day is divided in two parts : first half and second half. In first half focus will be in theoretical aspects and second half will be focus on practical's/ hands on exercises.
Who can participate?
Anyone having a Masters degree or Research Scholars in the field of Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics & allied branches, Faculty members in Bioinformatics and Computer science.
Basic knowledge about programming and algorithm will be an added advantage.
Outline of the workshop:
