Inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a primary
mediator of retinal angiogenesis, is insufficient to prevent retinal
neovascularization.

Now, researchers have uncovered another suspected molecule as a retinal
angiogenic factor in proliferative diabetic retinopathy, a new study
published in the journal New England Journal of Medicine.
