Essential role of glycosphingolipids in brain development

Sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipids (GSLs), i.e., gangliosides,
which constitute a major component of neuronal cells, have been thought
to be essential for brain function. This is supported by a new study
findings published in the journal PNAS.
