Summer 2012 paid internship: Broome Energy Conservation Corps
Want a green job? Want to solve climate change?
Join the Energy Corps! The Broome County Energy Conservation Corps is an innovative social marketing campaign that was launched in summer 2011 by the City of Binghamton and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County.
This summer 2012, interns will be trained to conduct Education and Outreach to the community on the opportunities for community-scale retrofitting of homes for energy -- cutting carbon, creating green jobs, and stimulating the local economy. This is made possible through New York’s innovative Green Jobs Green New York Program.
The summer Energy Corps conducts in-home energy assessments to educate elected officials, nonprofit executives, and other community leaders about community-scale retrofitting of homes for energy efficiency -- cutting carbon, creating green jobs, and stimulating the local economy. The Energy Corps will involve students at Binghamton University and Broome Community College in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County and the City of Binghamton.
Summer 2012 Energy Corps members will:
- Receive paid training in home educational energy assessments
- Conduct home assessments with community leaders
- Support them in becoming energy leaders in our community
- Work with the leaders to assist them in accessing financing and accredited
contractors to get their homes retrofitted.
- Support local governments in launching energy efficiency initiatives
- Carry out direct outreach, education and case management to assist area homeowners in taking advantage of the Green Jobs Green New York Program
- Create marketing videos
- Build collaborations for a green jobs workforce
Students with an interest in energy efficiency and renewable energy, social marketing, climate policy, community organizing, green jobs, or social and economic justice are encouraged to apply.
Very strong communications skills and a commitment to sustainability are a must. Confident computer skills and some knowledge of buildings or building trade experience are a plus.
Applications for the internship are due by April 15. Late applications may be accepted on a case by case basis. All applicants must fill in the application form here, and forward your cover letter and resume to the Energy Leadership Program at GJGNYSou...@gmail.com Be sure to write "Resume for Broome Energy Conservation Corps Summer 2012" in the subject line.
