Hello everyone -

Jeff Mapes, author of Pedaling Revolution, is one of Saturday’s 12:00pm keynote speakers.

Jeff Mapes is the senior political reporter for The Oregonian newspaper in Portland. He spent more than three years researching and writing, Pedaling Revolution: How Cyclists are Changing American Cities. A longtime bike commuter, Mapes decided to write his book after watching the growth of a robust urban bike culture in Portland. He visited cities around the country and in Europe and charted the growth of cyclists' political power. Pedaling Revolution was reviewed by The New York Times and numerous other publications and is now in its third printing. Mapes has covered numerous state, congressional and presidential campaigns as well as several sessions of the Oregon Legislature, and he is a former Washington correspondent. He lives in Portland with his wife Karen. They have two grown children and their last transportation purchase was a cargo bike.

Bike Fort Collins is pleased to hold its own workshop this year.  “Year-Round Bike Commuting” should be of interest to anyone with questions about riding your bicycle all year long.  Have you ever wondered how to use your bike to become more green?  Many Fort Collins residents are already experiencing the joy of commuting year round.  Join us in this interactive info session and we will show you how easy it is to commute anywhere, anytime.  Free bike lights while supply lasts!

Build Your Own Bike
Panda Bicycles Saturday
9 am-11 am & 2 pm - 4 pm Sunday 10 am-noon & 1-3 pm
Using recycled bike frames and parts we’ll build a bike and trailer in this workshop. The class is split into four sections, each will focus on a specific element of building a bike from repurposed parts. We will work on a few different styles of bikes which may include: old 10-speed, classic cruiser, road, & mountain. The bikes built in this class will be available for bid in the silent auction at the Sustainable Living Fair.
    • The first session is on Sourcing Parts and Compatibility — learn how to find repurposed parts and make sure that they’ll all work together!
    • In the second session, Don’t Reinvent the Wheel — learn how to restore old hubs and wheels.
    • In the third session, Putting it all Together Now - we’ll build the bike from bearings on up.
    • And in the fourth session, Got cargo? — we’ll build a bike trailer!
