Subject: "wheelchairs in bike lanes" ordinance

Hello to Fort Collins Bicyclists!

I'm sure many of you are aware of the "wheelchairs in bike lanes" ordinance. It's finally coming up in front of  City Council for first reading on Tuesday, October 6th. It's the first item up on the agenda, so it should come up shortly after 6pm.

I've attached a soapbox that was cowritten by Mike Devereaux of Barrier Busters and myself. I've also attached talking points.

Passing this ordinance in the form we want (the word "substantially" removed) is a victory for the disability rights community, and also represents a great opportunity for bike advocates to work more closely with disability rights advocates (a concept that warms my heart!).

There seems to be support on council to pass it and remove "substantially", but they need to hear from as many of us as possible!

So, if you are so inclined, we'd love to see you on Tuesday. If you can't make it, please contact council.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and concerns.

Thanks much!
Cheryl
